Also, I’ve heard that Ball wrote into Vivian Vance’s contract that her weight had to be on the chunkier side so as not to upstage LB.

I did not hear they had an affair, but knowing the cesspool that Hollywood largely is, that would not surprise me.

And although communist activity in that era (actually, earlier, 1930-1960) is a hobby of mine, I had not heard this, but I don’t doubt that either or both of them socialized with people who were communists. But neither of them is Robert Oppenheimer, just actors. And we know why Ronald Reagan left the Democrat Party...it was largely due to their Communist sympathies, mostly in the Screen Actors Guild.

LOL...I typed out “Film Actors Guild” then realized it was my inner “Team America” coming out...:)

Thanks for the correction on the number of kids. All that stuff bounces around like pinballs in my brain these days! Good to keep it straight.

We did a Northeast road trip last year (Niagara Falls, Cleveland R&R Museum, etc) and one of our stops was the Lucille Ball Desi Arnaz Museum in Jamestown, NY. Worth the visit.

The problem was Desi couldn’t keep it in his pants and Lucy finally got sick of it.

Lucy’s grandfather was a communist and she joined the communist party as a young woman because of him.

There was a big brouhaha when that info came out during the McCarthy era. But everyone Loved Lucy and it blew over.

Especially because Desi’s father had to leave Cuba because he was being persecuted by the Cuban communists.

HOLY COW! HISTORY: Was America’s Favorite Redhead a Red?

I know what you mean about numbers bouncing in your brain. You're not alone.

But everyone Loved Lucy and it blew over.

It was because J. Edgar Hoover loved Lucy. He would clear his daily calendar so he could watch "I Love Lucy" at home. He offered Desi Arnaz a way out if he would play ball, which he did.

In a warmup to the show's audience, Desi said, "The only part of Lucy that's red is her hair -- and not all of that is really red." He got a massive laugh out of that.

It worked.

I’ve also heard that when she first saw the headline, Lucy thought they were talking about Eve Arden. LOL
