Alright get mad at me, I know this musical is from over 50 years ago, but to me Herod is the modern Obama.

Flame away and mods pull if too controversial.

Happy Easter, he has risen.

How so?

Herod was a psychopath, a narcissist, and had major inferiority complex issues but an insatiable drive for power and prestige. Contributed to his murderous raging temper.

Read a book about him sometime, and about what he inflicted on his wife Mariamne and sons.

Note the precipitous decline of musicianship spanning the time between the original version and this disaster.

Since 2000, that decline has accelerated.

On June 28, 1972, the Universal Amphitheatre hosted its first concert, a production of the Broadway rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar. The show was a hit and was extended until cold weather forced its closure.

Didn’t see it there on opening night, but did see it there shortly thereafter.

It really was a hit! The performances and music carried the day unmarred by special effects. The only effect I recall was a little UV in the stage light on Jesus, and a slight extra fluorescence brightness of his robes.

Wonderfully understated. With a good story line you don’t need overblown special effects.

Much better version here IMHO.
