What do you buy your daughter to mark her coming of age when she turns 21?

If you are Republican Senate hopeful Kari Lake the gift of choice is a 9mm Sig Sauer P365-XL Comp handgun, finished with flourishes of rose gold.

'My baby girl is growing up. I won't always be there to protect her,' Lake told DailyMail.com.

XL version not the best carry, but a good platform. Magazines are terrible though.

I just want to point out something about these compact, and sub compact handguns.

Because of the short barrel lengths, being less than 4”, hollow point self defense rounds may not either adequately penetrate, or may not expand, per the FBI and other test standards.

As far as I know, the federal hst in 124 gr +p, and 147 gr, appear to still to perform adequately in compacts of < 4” barrels, or more specifically, I have not seen a test that shows newer (couple years since the redesign) 147 gr hst does not pass the fbi standards out of a 3.1” barrel.

It might mean when you go to these compact and subcompact firearms, you may have to reconsidery your ammunition choices.

I had the P365 first and used it for a defensive handgun course. Later, the P365XL came out. My wife purchased one. I was less impressed. Too many FTF. Failure to get into battery. I waited a year for SIG to work out the bugs. I purchased a P365XL with the red dot package. Still not fired as ammo became scarce and expensive. I have a S&W Equalizer topped with a Holosun EPS Carry 6 MOA green dot now. I trust it more than the P365XL.

I hope the gifted P365XL with rose accents is a better product than what I have encountered.

“There is nothing in the article about anyone using alcohol.”

I think backpacker was making a joke/pun: “shots”.

“Sig Sauers are manufactured here in tax free New Hampshire.”

She could have bought a Ruger handgun and a LC Carbine, both made in Prescott Arizona.

I know nothing about guns, but that’s sort of beautiful.

I think it’s the weapon that popularized the term PDW. Personal Ddfense Weapon.

The excellent Hornady Critical Defense ammo is designed for use in shorter barrels.

The writing of that headline is journalistic incompetence:

“Kari Lake gets her daughter shots for her birthday. . . “

The story is perfect.

I’ve fired at Ruger’s “range” at Newport. (While he still was living). Really, a pasture...

I think they’ve moved production elsewhere since.

Sig Sauer has a number of facilities in NH, but I believe they manufacture handguns in Exeter.
