Now you know.
Brought to you by the U.S. taxpayer!
Money well spent??
Israel is basically our battlefield laboratory. The 1973 war was basically won by US Vietnam veteran pilots.
I have mixed feelings FWIW. I dont like the state aid but this appears effective and could even more than pay for itself
“The 1973 war was basically won by US Vietnam veteran pilots”
Thats a bit of a bold statement / a stretch.
Do you have some reliable sources/backup for that. Thats the first I’ve heard of that.
The Israeli Egyptian/Syrian War of Attrition between 1967 and and 1973 was literally a live-fire testing ground between American and Russian military equipment and systems.
Defense? Islam is never-ending offense. It is very offensive.
Too bad these pilots couldn't win in Vietnam.
Wars are won in the field, and lost in Washington...

The US C-RAM (Counter Rockets, Artillery and Mortars) Program was the basis for Iron Dome development.
That was by the Israeli Arrow 2 or 3, which is analogous to the ABM version of the Patriot.
It’s a long distance footrace. It is a team event with waves of designated “rabbits” whose only purpose is to exhaust the competitors so the “winner” can roll to victory.
“waves” - launches from multiple origins
“Rabbits” - cheap drones
“rabbits” - reserve team > unmarried, military age males dispersed throughtout the country waiting for the signal to be a rabbit.
“exhaust” - deplete the inventory of sophisticated defensive munitions
“footrace” - wars everywhere on planet earth
“winner” - fill-in-the-blank
What’s the saying, it takes a democrat to lose a war that’s already won?
“Wars are won in the field, and lost in Washington...”
The fog of war...
Macnamara deserved stringing up and disembowelment.
One instance being that fighter pilots were ordered not to attack Sam sites because Soviet technicians were present operating those sam sites and he did not want them killed in order to avoid Soviet ire being raised...
I knew people recruited. Israel had a history of using foreign pilots. They also needed trainers for the new American aircraft they received. The US and Israel benefit greatly from the experience gained there.
Iron Dome got perfected because hamas continually launched rockets from Gaza - for years. How long would the US tolerate something like that if, say, Canada decided to just start launching missiles into our country? Would we “show restraint?” Would our response be “proportional?”
“Jehad is a continuous and never-ending struggle...”
True that. Iron Dome is basically an array of different types of US Patriot interceptors. Israel does a few tweaks to some of them. Successes and failures in Israel represent knowledge to improve our own missile defenses.
By the way, they're designed in Huntsville, Sweet Home Alabama. When I think about that, I think about all the egg-heads at MIT saying Regan's missile defense ides was stupid. They said "you can't hit a bullet with another bullet". What MIT said was impossible, geeks in Huntsville said was a challenge that could be done.
Also McLeansville NC before Clinton. I worked in the same building where they did some of the research.
Look at the missile prices in the article, $20,000-$50,000, and then update them for the present value of money. Iron Dome typically fires two missiles at each target. The enemy can fire thousands of missiles. Now, the software decides which missiles will hit something and which can be ignored. But guided drones must be taken down. They can cost as little as $600. A large incoming salvo could exhaust the defenses.

Fight the drones with drones.
How do you foul their propellers?
