When my son got a participation trophy, I took it from him and threw it out. Then I explained to him why I did it and helped him develop life skills which the teachers refused to do. He is now very successful in his field and recently thanked my wife and I on how he was brought up.
Excellent life lesson. Difficult at the time but raising a child, especially today, has many such moments.
