So, my 21 year-old kid had their 2023 taxes done by a licensed professional this past year. Her taxes this year were a little bit more involved than previous years and we decided to get it done professionally so that future returns would be easy to piggyback on. There is a refund due of a little bit over $2000. She's been waiting and waiting. Finally received a letter from the IRS saying they need to verify her identity. She has already done that the previous year and also has an ID me account. We tried to call the IRS according to the letter and they hung up on her 13 times. She finally called the local IRS office and got an appointment for sometime in July!. They also said that everybody in Florida is having problems connecting with DC.

I cannot help but think this is on purpose because we are a red state and are being punished as our "benevolent" government slow walks service. Anyone else having issues???

There’s been a lot of fraud going on with people filing using other people’s identity. Plus, I think the IRS is probably still using 1980’s computer technology.

Whh the Florida title when it is US Federal Tax Return that is at issue?

They issue a new identity number every year; I’m surprised the accountant was able to file without it.

There’s something to be said to try not to have too large of a tax refund. Sometimes, it can’t be done. I probably would be less stressed about it if it were a $200 refund instead of $2,000.

Absolutely that is the Case. Thus it is a retaliation for Florida voting conservative. They can look up which political party people are registered with and harass them for their party affiliation.

I’m in a blue state they hung up on me 3x in one day this week. I was on hold 40 min each time. Gave up. Which is what they want.

It’s not that hard to fine-tune your witholding, so you owe them money, instead of waiting for a refund.
I never let them use my money, interest free.

You’re probably referring to an Identity Theft PIN. You can’t electronically file a tax return without that PIN if the IRS has issued one for that taxpayer. Sometimes the taxpayer them selves don’t know they were issued a PIN. Which makes it harder to get anywhere with the IRS. Good Luck.

Go to IRS website and sign up for getting your tax transcript. It will give codes of what is going on.

I efiledd 2/10/24 using an accounting firm used in past. In checking IRS REFUND, it was stuck on received for a month.

The firm gave me the number to IRS TAX ADVOCATE. They looked at my file and explained a delay but didn’t know why. But a letter would be coming within 60days.

I signed up for ID.ME ON IRS WEBSITE. Wow so much info about your current and past taxes.

I finally got my letter just saying a delay to verify income. My income dropped in 2023 due to losing my husband.

In checking bank account weeks after letter my refund was there. I was shocked, no notice just showed up.

We have not had any issues in recent years, but several years ago, we did. They said we owed like $250,000 more in taxes. Could barely ever get anyone on the phone. When we did, they always identified themselves as “Mrs. Knox”, which was impossible that we were repeatedly reaching the same person.

At some point, they told us on the phone that it was resolved (and we actually got a modest refund after it was all settled), and we said we needed to have something in writing from the IRS, since we had all these threatening letters, etc.

But I suspect there is something to it, that being in Florida, they are slow-walking any refund due.

I seriously doubt it’s a plot against Floridians, I live in Florida, my wife and I because of various investments always have a professional file our taxes, those investments almost always require we pay at the end of each year, requiring us to make estimated quarterly payments the following year, meaning we have an out of the ordinary tax return and have never experienced anything like what was described, yes the IRS has horrendous customer service just like the post office but some plot against Florida is most likely not happening

I have an elderly Aunt that I’m the guardian for and use a professional to file her taxes every year and because of her investments and expenses gets a huge refund every year and she’s never had the experience that has been described and she lives in Florida as well

Florida doesn’t have a personal income tax, so why does the title contain ‘Florida’??

Because we live in Florida, the local IRS office told us this is happening ALL OVER FLORIDA plus we are a red state with a kick ass governor
