Am really back in the 18th century now.

Well, except for that whole radio thing - and the computer, electric lights, automobile, etc, etc, etc...

I just finished typing in a pasta salad recipe and then Netscape puked and died. Dagnabit. I'll try again later. It's important that he keep stuff out of the 40 to 140 degree range. You should impress that on him. Or he'll learn the hard way. ;>)

2 cups of dry multi-colored rotini, cooked as directed on the bag, drained, and cooled somewhat. In a bowl, add whatever meat in small pieces. We used sliced deli turkey breast cut up last night. I add whatever veggies are available. Last night we used about a cup of brocolli and a cup of cukes. 1/4 cup of finely chopped onions, a clove of garlic. A couple of tablespoons of dijon mustard, and enough mayo to coat the mixture. Sometimes I'll add a squirt of ranch dressing. I always add whatever fresh herbs are available and fit with the flavors. Salt, pepper, and vinegar to taste. Serve over a bed of field greens.

This is a pretty vague recipe, but it allows a lot of experimentation. It keeps ok in the fridge, and we eat ours up to 3 days later. But because it has mayo in it, it needs to stay in the fridge.

You've your facts wrong. We recaptured Stonypoint with General Washington personally leading the charge. End result ... very few Americans died ... over 60 Tories did and more than 500 Tories taken prisoner.

Sure ... confuse the issue. There's no talking to you ... nothing I can say will prove to you Washington is a lightweight ... maybe when we are all subjects to the King again ... and your Washington acts as his left hand ... you will finally believe what has been so obvious all along.

Those who follow never lead ...

Another good one is beans and cornbread. It's a little more high in fat, but it's good, inexpensive, and gives him 3 days of eating.

We use either white beans or pinto beans. 1 can of Rotel diced peppers and tomatoes, 1 onion, chopped large, 5 slices of bacon, diced fairly small, 1 beer, 1 shot of Jack Daniels, 2 cloves of garlic, and a handful of cilantro. If fresh oregano is available, I use it.

He should either soak the beans overnight, and dump the water, or bring them to a boil with enough water to cover them and then let them rest for a couple of hours, and change out the water. That tends to eliminate the... um.. problem beans sometimes cause.

The recipe for cornbread is on the side of the cornmeal package. He should NOT put sugar in the corn-bread. I tend to put grated cheese and jalapenos in my corn-bread. It's good, filling, cheap, and serves well for a couple of days.

Brit Hume is interviewing the two missionaries who were captured in Afghanistan. He is asking VERY good questions, things he says believers and those seeking would want to know.

stay, sometimes I tremble for our young country...

I wake up to the mist clearing from the meadow...the old trees rising beyond up to Heaven, it seems.

And I tremble and ache for the loss and sacrifice...

And then I think of my dearest childhood friend, Abigail. She lives over on the coast now, married of course to another Friend.

He will not fight, but instead build boats for the Cause.

And my cousin, joined up with Washington at the start...5 years, it has been now!

And my neighbor's sons....so strong and determined, proud...even after Guildford Courthouse.

Some..some spirit moves among us....

Faith, stay the course....FAITH!

That was remarkable TV! Going to tape the show later to get the beginning. Thanks, Jane.

What courage and determination and maturity those young women possess!

Your #172 actually gave me goose-bumps and my eyes are tearing up, unrelated to peppers I've handled recently.

Our fore-fathers did suffer much loss and sacrifice. When I found myself or others gritching about the heat when we were in the field, I tried to remind myself and them about the guys that are living in the field in Afghanistan and Qatar, and other unhappy places. At least we knew that we were going home soon.

Gripers need to be confronted. It's not THAT bad. And it could be much worse.

The missionaries have written a book, which is just out. Brit said it was a remarkable adventure and a remarkable testimony to their faith. He seemed genuinely interested in their faith, and how it helped them.

Not the usual interview, and for those who missed it I would recommend watching the rerun later tonight.

Yes...

Abigail and her shipbuilder husband were my ancestors....

Abigail was a young woman when she left Guildford Co. for Cartaret Co.

A few years later her father's farm become part of the battle there.

My ancestor James Hickman joined Washington in 1776 and fought til war's end.

He was in his 40s when he left for the war....

I thank them for their service.

I saw Kristol on FOX earlier and he really shocked me. The whole show (someone whose name I can't recall was standing in for John Gibson on The Big Story) was pretty much a bash-Bush-fest. They had someone on there saying that no one who hasn't been in battle should be directing our military ..... that he had grave doubts about our National Security Advisor (Condi Rice!) ..... and other cute little things like that. They did a big hit piece on Colin Powell.

And then came the segment with Kristol. He was the most supportive of the President of anyone I saw on the whole show ..... though I must admit to catching only bits and pieces. He played down the supposed rift between the Bush father and son ...... and said that he wholeheartedly supports the President and his position on Iraq. The FOX guy was practically begging him to say uglies about Bush .... kept asking him leading questions ...... and Kristol didn't waiver in his position.

As much as I hate to say anything good about the man, I must give credit where credit is due. But I was really ticked at the Gibson substitute. He must be one of those there to enable FOX to claim that they are fair and balanced.
