If the Romans weren't Germanic where did they come from??? Them being an earlier Germanic tribe who moved South to a warmer climate seems to me the most likely explanation. Its unlikely they were Celtic since the Celts in Gaul harassed them until Julius Caesar finally ended that once and for all.
