Any Freepers remember how to make a turkey decoration out of an apple, marshmellows and raisins?

Posted on 10/17/2002 6:56:23 PM PDT by Conservababe

Okay, my problem is that I remember making them and they were so cute to sit on the Thanksgiving table, but I don't recall how to make them. Sigh, and now I wish to teach my grandchildren how to make them, but I forget if the marshmellows go on the tail or the raisins. And what did we use for the gobbler and feet?

Yes, I have searched on the net, and I find that they now make turkeys for the decoration of the table out of construction paper. LOL

If anyone remembers, I sure would appreciate your help.

I use brown and golden raisins on 5 graduated toothpicks for the tail (in a fan shape). For the legs I use three toothpicks with brown raisins on them. For the neck I use one toothpick with brown raisins. For the head I use an olive, placed on the end of the neck 'toothpick' with the pimento gently teased out about a third of the way to look like the turkey's wattle??? Then I place two whole cloves for the eyes.

Good Luck!

Oh goodness gracious, I just knew that I could count on a Freeper to help me. I so much thank you. My grand babies are going to have a wonderful time making these, surely.

HOLIDAY TURKEY DECORATION

Ingredients needed for each holiday turkey:

12 - Long “Frilly” Toothpicks
1 – Red Delicious Apple
1 – Large Red Grape
    34 – Raisins
25 – Colored (or white) Mini Marshmallows
2 – Pepper Corns

Instructions:

Body:  Lay apple on it’s side.  Use smaller end for the front of the turkey.  Put three toothpicks on the underside of the apple for the legs (about ½ inch out) to balance.

Tail:  Skewer 8 frilly toothpicks alternately with a raisin then a marshmallow until stacked three high and finish with a raisin.  Stick toothpicks into apple 1/3 way in from large end to form a “fan”.

Head:  Break the “frilly” part off end of toothpick and set aside.  Stick “non-frilly” toothpick in the apple at the opposite end from the tail (in small end of apple), then alternate on toothpick a raisin (against apple), marshmallow, raisin and grape (skewered side ways and fitted with 2 pepper corn eyes) for the head.  Put remaining broken-off “frilly” part in bottom on grape for turkey’s beard.
