"I do not know the significance of the "boots and horse"....... please tell me........"

I'm sure that others could tell it more accurately and with more detail than I can do, but in general the boots are a symbol and riding the horse is an honor.

The military side of Texas A&M naturally uses seniority for status among the corps of cadets. At the lowest level are Freshmen/Fsih (or new transfers into A&M).

In the military arrangements at A&M, there are two elite groups. The first is the Cavalry and the second is/are the Ross Volunteers.

To discern "rank" or seniority, there are subtle changes to the Texas A&M military uniform as a cadet/student advances from Freshman to Senior. The Freshmen have the shortest haircuts, for instance, while Juniors get to wear white belts (I think) and Seniors get to wear boots.

But they aren't just any boots. They are nearly knee-high, dress, mirrored-finish boots.

In the cavalry, cadets start by scooping up the excesses of the horses (a hilarious sight to see at football games as the Freshmen follow the horses with brooms and shovels to clear the deposits - with uniform military precision). Riding one of the horses is pretty well forbidden until much later in the cadet's career at A&M.

As Juniors, the cadets anxiously await the special day wherein the Seniors yield and permit them to finally wear their polished boots. Many a fine Southern lady has disdained her Texas suitors until they have worn those boots for the first time, as being escorted to a Texas A&M football game by a man who wears the boots is far more desireable than merely attending the event with someone who has no such display of power and status, it seems.

Moreover, those in the cavalry anxiously await the day wherein they can finally ride their horse, preferably to/at an A&M football game.

The Aggie who has both the boots and the horse is close to the pinnacle of A&M campus status. While the horse won't make every class, however, the boots will (and therefore the boots are also a found target for the brave practical jokes by the lower classmen to be played upon the Seniors).

Not everyone gets to wear the boots. Fewer still earn the right to ride the horse, and on campus, those are enormous symbols of respect.

To do them both, your friend put in the time and maintained his honor for years.

Whoop!

How tragic! God has taken a good soul into heaven. My prayers go out to his family and asking the angels and Our Lady to pray for them and comfort them in their loss.

Romans 12

Living Sacrifices to God

Christians Should Lead Transformed Lives
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Serve God with Spiritual Gifts
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Behave Like a Christian
9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.
14Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,"[1] says the Lord. 20Therefore

"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head."[2]

21Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Close ranks...forward---keep Marching!

We will follow---"ride the horse--wear the boots"...
