Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Good morning all.
Yeah, the mines are not to code on the railings and the grade of the stairs at least, not to mention that I don't believe that many animals would be allowed in a residence.
I guess codes must be necessary, but I'm pretty sure that if we'd had them, and inspectors, in the 18th and early 19th centuries, the U.S. would still be a third world nation.
Good snag.

Good Morning, Sam!
It's going to be in the low 30's here today so I think I will work on getting my housekeeping up to code. Just finishing my coffee first.

Mornin'; just got back from walking Samantha, fresh coating of snow and just a drift of snow coming down. Amtrak just went through, and another pot of coffee is brewing.
We're having lunch with our old neighbors today, at our favorite Italian resturant, Lidia's (shameless plug). They were our neighbors for 24 years, moved across town. It was kind of neat watching all the kids grow up, get married, have kids. New neighbors have a young'un and looks like we'll watch it unfold again.
Won't be re-reading TTT for the next few days, just got "Vagabond" from the library. Cornwell's second book in the series about an English longbowman (anyone surprised) during the 100 years war. First one was "An Archer's Tale" good reading.
To: osagebowman
It's really cool getting together with old friends...sometimes it's too easy to get out of touch with them.
I heard Legolas' bow creak last night when he was shooting at the Watcher in the lake and thought of you! :) Last Monday Conquest on The History Channel was on archery...informative for us non-archer types anyway.

Good morning! I'm about to leave for viewing five. It's Saturday, so everyone have fun, ok? No stupid chores or housework permitted, right?

Good morning!
I have exciting news!! Our poodle was born a week ago and is now old enough for visitors. It's a solid black poodle, and we are going tomorrow to visit it!
It is still 7 weeks away from being able to come home, but the stork has landed here! I'll take plenty of pictures!
Ruthy, I can't describe the depression my mom went through after the dear Maggie departed...it was your suggestion that she get another one right away that pushed her in that direction. (It didn't take much of a push, but someone still had to do the pushing.) Now she is practically walking on air and even her arthritis isn't giving her as much problems!!
Your a decent person, you know. In a world where there aren't too many, it seems this Hole has an unusually high number of decent people.
To: Corin Stormhands
Sheesh! Would ya look at this place. Leave the wimmin folk alone for a day and look what they've done. Porno pics of Billy Boyd!!!! I ran away screaming two days in a row.....

Cornwell's second book in the series about an English longbowman Is this Bernard Cornwell who did the 'Sharpe' series and the 'Starbuck' trilogy? I love his books!

Yeah, the Governor is plenty ticked at me...but he's the least of my problems -- it's the patron (the multi-billionaire NY jerk), that's going to be my end here. They do what he wants or the checks (to the party and to the campaigns) and the benefits (jobs for spouses and family, use of highly secluded vacation residences, entre to the events and homes of the most special people, etc.) stop coming in, and the Governor and my Board want those checks and benefits more than just about anything in the world.
Our Governor is a twit and highly manipulable, but it's the powerful fellow from Wall Street, who would not be beyond the cliche of the "horses head in the bed," that worries me.
To: rightwingreligiousfanatic
I knew somethin' must have scared ya off!
I can see how that would do it! ;~D
Morning everybody! I slept in! (Well, not really, I stumbled out at 5 and let the horses out, then stumbled back to bed) But I got some extra sleep!
Now I have to tidy up around here! - Penny is coming over this morning!
To: Scott from the Left Coast
I am intrigued! - When you said it was a friend of Bill's, I thought I knew who you might have ticked off! - But the second richest guy I am thinking of isn't from New York!
Hullo! - Good morning!
To: HairOfTheDog
Does the firm KKR ring a bell with you???
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Nope.... it doesn't!
To: HairOfTheDog
You've got Freep mail, they don't hang out in the Hole (they're far too nasty for that), but still...you know.
To: HairOfTheDog; Scott from the Left Coast; JenB; 2Jedismom
Quite a few more people to say "Good Morning" to now!
Scott, sounds like you're making powerful enemies.
To: Overtaxed
Yup, they don't get any more powerful (or more nasty) than this.
To: Scott from the Left Coast
Ummm...be careful out there!
To: Overtaxed
Too late.
