LOTT:...But in answer to your question a moment ago, it is about actions more than words. As majority leader, I can move an agenda that would have things that would be helpful to African-Americans and minorities of all kinds and all Americans, but specifically aimed at showing African-Americans that they have particular concerns and needs that we have to advance an agenda that will help rural and ...

GORDON: Sure.

LOTT: ... urban areas, education, so that every child really does have an education.

GORDON: But, senator, many of those African-Americans believe, quite frankly, that that was you speaking in code to constituents with a wink and a nod saying, "You know, the good old days."

Personally, I was quite bothered by the commentary offered immediatly after Lott's appearance on BET.  The host and one of the commentators kept refering to Lott "speaking in code".

Well, WHO THE HELL TOLD THEM ABOUT THE CODE!!!
It may be time to change the secret handshake...

Quick, what's the alternate setting for the FreeRepublic super-duper decoder ring? I lost my 3D glasses and can't locate the "Black Helicopter" setting?

I admit it. I sold them a copy of my secret decoder ring.

But look! I got some really kewl stuff: a yo-yo, a GI-Joe (old style. I have standards), a copy of Leaves of Grass (slightly used), some waxed paper and this piece of string.

Are you suggesting this might have something to do with some of my posts in the "Sir Mix-a-Lot Chat room?"

In the beginning, there were great lumps.
Cold and lonely, they wandered aimlessly through the dense gas.

After a time, these lumps came together to form the Sun, our first heating system.

Awesome graphic!

If you're not familiar with it, you might browse through some 19th and early 20th Century political cartoons. In those days, drawings were TV, and they were damnd good at it.

A good start would be the Berryman collection here: Clifford Kennedy Berryman

Berryman drew for the Washington Evening Star. He was magnificent. It's hard to see it all without the contemporaneous context, but you might get some ideas. His kind were masters at loading an image. You are good. I hope you join them.
