Typcial neo-reb lying crap. The "brokers and financiers" wanted appeasement and conciliation at almost any cost.

Guess again. Typcial neo-Linconlite lying crap. With the South departed, and the North facing economic devastion - the loss of its customers, suppliers and sugar daddy - the northern "brokers and financiers" wanted the South brought back into the fold at any cost.

16 Wall St. New York

March 5th 1861

My Dear Sir,

I read your Inaugural approving every arguement it contains, and my heart responded "amen" to every patriotic sentiment therein expressed-- I took it home and read it to my wife, and she seemed delighted with it-- This morning I called on a Breckinridge Democrat and put the question "How do you like the Inaugural"? "First rate, It is short and full of pith" was the reply--

I then called on a "Silver Gray" friend and asked him, "How do you like the Inaugural"? "Splendid It could not be bettered" he answered

I then steped into the office of a staunch Douglass man and inquired "How do you like the Inaugural?" "All right & if Mr Lincoln will stand firm to his position I am with him heart and hand" was his answer--

It being about lunch time I droped into the restaurant of the black man across the street and says "Well Mr Ray how do you like the Inaugural"? "I think he has hit the nail on the head, our folks will all stand by him" said he--

Lastly I called on a stock broker and asked the same question, and added "how does the Inaugural effect the stock market" "We are afraid there is too much fight in it, the market is feverish" was his answer--

From these indications I think the honest portion of the American people are with you, and will hold themselves subject to your direction whether it be storm or sunshine that may follow.

I am very Respectfully

Your Obedient & Humble

Servant,

H. D. Faulkner
