"The Two Towers" DELETED SCENES!!!
The One Ring, dot NET ^ | December 23, 2002 | Strider

Posted on 01/02/2003 6:11:04 PM PST by Long Cut

The link above is to a comprehensive list of scenes deleted from TTT, or moved to ROTK. All those who wished for more "fleshing out" of key scenes, or who wished for more development of particular areas, should give this one a close look, right here. If they were ALL included in the theatrical release, we'd have a five-hour movie, seems to me. CHECK IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Extended Edition includes but HALF of these scenes, I'm a happy man. What do y'all think?

Click on the link above, give the list a looksee, and let's get to talking about which ones we simply MUST see in the Extended Edition, ROTK, and what plot turns it all might mean!

Faramir lovers have reason to smile, as well, it seems.

Just for ease...

Shortlist Of Deleted Scenes From TTT
Strider @ 2:36 pm EST

Since filming went underway in 2000, The Two Towers has seen its storyline changed endless times due to necessity, time constraints, negative fan feedback and even by order of New Line. Hence, a huge chunk of material was either unused in the final theatrical cut of the movie or scrapped entirely. Here is just a list of some of the scenes that may or may not feature in The Two Towers Extended Edition next year.

• Arwen running up to Elrond's veranda in Rivendell in fear, saying 'You have the gift of foresight...'
• Gandalf the White telling Aragorn at night before Helm's Deep that Sauron 'fears what you may become'
• Faramir discovering Boromir's horn cloven in two as it washes ashore
• Arwen walking up towards the shards of Narsil while wearing a cloak similar to the one which she wears while leaving Rivendell
• Further shots of Merry and Pippin being guarded by the Uruk-hai at night
• Further shots of Eowyn standing outside the Golden Hall of Edoras
• Elrond stating the alliance of Elves and Men 'is over'
• Sam making greater use of the Elven rope given to him by Galadriel while travelling to Mordor with Frodo
• Further shots of Arwen and Aragorn together in the past
• The storyline of Arwen taking part in Helm's Deep, including shots of the Rivendell Elves arriving at Lothlorien and Arwen sleeping under falling leaves, was completely scrapped
• Further shots of Eomer's travels in the hunt of orcs or after being banished from Rohan
• Bilbo discussing the departure of Rivendell with Elrond and Arwen
• Saruman claiming he will soon become 'more powerful than the Lord of the Rings himself'
• Several scenes involving the two hobbits and Treebeard, including Merry and Pippin drinking the Ent Draught
• A beautiful soliloquy from Faramir post-battle with the Haradrim, where he asks rethorically 'I wonder what his name was, where his home is, his family. Was he really evil at heart, or did the Dark Lord deceive him, as he has deceived so many others? What lies or threats led him on the long march from his home?'
updated additions:
• More scuffling amongst the Uruk-hai and Orcs whilst in possession of the Hobbits
• Faramir showing Frodo and Sam a way out of Osgiliath through the sewers
• Saruman's speech that begins 'So Gandalf Greyhame thinks...'
• Ents participating in the battle of Helm's Deep
• Flashbacks to Boromir, Faramir and Denethor together
• Further footage of Frodo's scuffle with Sam
• The Uruk-hai invasion of the caves in Helm's Deep
• Eomer pulling Theodred out of some mud post-battle
• Aragorn releasing Theodred's horse Brego, the horse that would save him later, from it's stable
• A flashback to Boromir's death in FotR
• A council of Elves debating whether or not an alliance with Men is feasible
• Legolas scolding the stupidity of the Elves not to assist the race of Men with their fight against Sauron
• Eowyn about to slay an Orc in the caves - may appear in RotK
• Gimli smoking a pipe while resting on a dead orc - may appear in RotK
updated additions:
• Further shots of Gollum travelling to Mordor with the hobbits, including him ordering not to stop on a certain road and extensions to the cooked rabbit scene
• Flashback to Smeagol killing Deagol over the One Ring while fishing on the River Anduin - will appear in RotK
• Merry and Pippin discussing what will happen to them when the Uruk-hai find out they don't bear the One Ring
• Sam discussing the changes occuring to Frodo with Gollum while the Ringbearer is asleep
• Gimli exploring the beautiful caves under Helm's Deep with Legolas
• The Orcs of Mordor joining the band of Uruk-hai
• Aragorn conversing with someone at night while lying down in a Rohan camp

WOW! Looks like I had a "SCOOP"!

Thanks, Hair, let the call go out! I smell MUCH good discussion and fun speculation here! Invite one and all to THIS party, if you please.

I have seen the pics of Frodo and Sam in the sewers.

Some of those other scenes were seen in trailers.

I am happy to know they filmed the ent-draught. It has a good chance of making it back in!

And the Horn. One of the mysteries that was not explained in the theatrical was how Faramir knew Boromir was dead. They took his word for it. But the horn is needed later with Denethor.

Don't you just know that after ROTK is released and its extended dvd also comes out, that then there will be a 'Deluxe Super Duper Director's Cut' 18 disc dvd set of all three with all of the above in them? May we all live to see it! :)

I already know what I'd like to see in the EE DVD:

1.• Bilbo discussing the departure of Rivendell with Elrond and Arwen

2 • A beautiful soliloquy from Faramir post-battle with the Haradrim, where he asks rethorically 'I wonder what his name was, where his home is, his family. Was he really evil at heart, or did the Dark Lord deceive him, as he has deceived so many others? What lies or threats led him on the long march from his home?'

3 • Ents participating in the battle of Helm's Deep

4 • Gimli exploring the beautiful caves under Helm's Deep with Legolas

5 • Aragorn releasing Theodred's horse Brego, the horse that would save him later, from it's stable

There's others, but you get the gist. #5 I'd like to see just for coherency's sake...I was WONDERING what horse that was, and how it found him. Ents at HD would be COOL, and Gimli and Legolas exploring the caves would greatly improve their character's depth, if done as in the novels.

Yep, and we'd all shell out the $100.00 for it, too, and do it smiling!

You have no idea how GOOD it feels to finally like a movie enough to say that.

"• Arwen walking up towards the shards of Narsil while wearing a cloak similar to the one which she wears while leaving Rivendell"

I have a theory about this...I think that Arwen's "departure" in TTT was just a work for her father's benefit, and she's REALLY getting the sword re-forged so she can deliver it to Aragorn in ROTK.

Who knows? What with all the changes to their characters' arcs from the books, anything can happen. And from Peter Jackson's standpoint, he's got something to thrill the teenaged girls who wept when they "broke up".

I would like to hear from Bilbo when the elves are leaving. When they showed scenes of Rivendell in TTT, it lookied like everyone was leaving and they had shut the lights off! I know they didn't go off and leave him! They have to wait till Frodo gets back.

And I would also love the scene with the release of the horse. It was described as a beautiful scene in some spoilers I read. The horse was described as emotionally and physically wounded... battle-shocked. And Aragorn freed him from further service. I am a horse lover, so that makes me teary just thinking about it!

And the Faramir scene sounds very poignant! - These are men, after all, not Orcs. What would possess a man to serve Sauron?

I don't think Arwen has the Resumé to re-forge the sword. But she could have gotten Elrond to do it. Elrond offered it in the Extended FoTR.

I agree, the whole Rivendell situation could use some beefing up, while we're unconcerned about length.

So could the character of Faramir. The addition of the scenes I mentioned, along with those of he and his family, would be most welcome to most "purists" AND movie-fans alike.

Yeah, but if PJ isn't going to do the Scouring of the Shire, it doesn't make much difference does it? One of the main points about Merry and Pippin being larger than the other Hobbits, was that they were able to fight and make a name for themselves in the brief Battle of Bywater.

HELLS BELLS! Don't delete a damned thing. Make the finale a 5 hour movie with an old-fashioned intermission after 2 1/2 hours. Double the price of admission and I will gladly pay it! And cheat dammit! Give us more Elf WOMEN!

"I don't think Arwen has the Resumé to re-forge the sword."

Me, either. But I'm sure she could find someone to do it for her. Anyway, it has to happen, and my idea is as good as any.
