Our Texas Locale page recently got very busy on the unusual topic of Ouija boards and such. Archy suggested a Lone Star Thread That Will Not Die. Like those darn Hobbit threads with 30,000+ posts.
This is not my thread and I'm not going to baby sit it every day. I just gathered the kindling and y'all have to start the fire.
TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: banglist; borad; chat; humidity; ouijibored; stiflingheat; texas

I'm not in Texas! I am from Washington State, and have never crossed the Mason Dixon line!
I was only here to help the thread get started... I am from the that "darn Hobbit thread with 30,000+ posts" Flyer mocked in the opener.

Thanks M&M, I'll save them for later. It took my little laptop awhile to load this page with all the beautiful pictures, LOL!
To: Wneighbor
Yes, it was a terrible shame to cut those pecan trees down, and I think it passed by ONE vote!!
To: potlatch
Well, do't mistake me for a tree-hugger. But, it doesn't make sense to cut them down for no reason. They are beautiful, scenic and should have stayed.

They could have dug one up and re-planted it in my yard :')

I prefer to say that darn Hobbit thread I honored in the opener.Okay, I'll feel a lot more welcome over here now. My first home here on FR was the Hobbit Hole although my lifetime home has been deep in the heart of Texas.

They could have dug one up and re-planted it in my yard :') Well, I keep mowin' over little ones all over my yard. I could dig you up some if you could come way north to get 'em. But, they're just native pecans so they wouldn't make good eatin' pecans unless you grafted 'em.

That's ok. I have my own mower. (my husband) He cut down my sickly pecan tree that I had been trying to get to grow for 5 years, this weekend. The fight was on :')
To: CindyDawg
Well, I read your page about CindyDawg. Sounds like to me your hubby just likes ribbing you a bit every now and then.
I have only lived in Wichita Falls for a little over a year but since I've been in this durned place I've lost 3 pecan trees in my yard to storms. I don't think they were meant to grow here. Back home, those roots grew so deep NOTHING would get 'em up. I know, I've tried. I grew up in a pecan bottom.

We get along just fine (most of the time lol). Anyway, I was raised around them too but I guess it's just too hot for small ones here. I bought this one from gurneys and it just didn't grow well. I guess I should have taken their planting zone seriously. I didn't think one up would make a big difference . Probably going to just plant a large oak. To bad they didn't try to move and save those trees though.
To: CindyDawg
I agree about the trees being saved.
But, like you, I'm surprised that the planting zone would make that much difference. When I moved from Central Texas up here I dug up and moved several perenial plants. Surprisingly, the only thing I lost my a sage plant. Now, who would have thought a sage would be picky in Texas?!
But, I went down a zone and into vastly different soil. And yet everything else survived. (still shaking my head over that sage though.)
