The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Steve is obsessive about it...like a hobby. He found a 20' metal ladder once! He is constantly scanning the road.
His record is 5 tools in one day, driving to and from work.
It used to annoy me and embarrass me...but now I've gotten swept up with it too and I find myself scanning! And the kids do too!
Most common things found are sockets (for a socket wrench, you know), tape measures, pliers. Also frequently WD-40.

No, it's not a bad thing! I think it's hysterical! They got a nice grill that way, too...which is why I'm pickin' on 2J.

Oh yeah, "Road Grill" was before your time. A whole grill salvaged from the middle of the road!
The name "Road Grill" is credited to Overtaxed. My whole family calls it that now.
I'll post a pic in a sec...it's a nice grill!

I don't usually soak mine in brine. I just let them dry out first and then bake 'em at 325 to 350 F for about 20 minutes. I have to adjust the baking time for each oven. When you pull them out of the oven test a peanut or two. They should be slightly chewy because they continue to cook in the shell while they're cooling off.

That is a spiffy grill. Great find

Ok...I'll haul them out of the brine now...I'll let them dry then roast them just before Steve comes home...
To: 2Jedismom
Just love the smell of roasting peanuts!
To: Prof Engineer
Yep...it's our best find yet!
Everyone still chuckles at the name Road Grill though...
It's just so typically "us".

and another one bites the dust... I threw two chairs...

We just planted them for fun, were amazed when they came up and the bunnies mowed them to the ground more than once! So the fact that we have ANY is amazing!

Jeeeze... when I was in detention.... the pitiable school nurse had to look after us. She never had a chance.

They also fix nitrogen so they're improving the soil too.
I have problems with the crows pulling up seedlings and then deer mowing 'em down.

Good morning! I'm watching from work.
The Bear is getting the oil changed in the car.

sounds like you need a quad 50 Cal gun turret....and the time to wait for the varmints to show up.
Dang deer are starting to eat my blue hostas and daylilies!
To: Overtaxed
I had forgot about the nitrogen fixing properties!
Excellent!
We have the ground bare where we harvested them for now, the chickens entertain themselves and scratch around in the fresh dirt...but I'll fertilize and mulch it this evening probably. I mulch heavily with hay.
