The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Woo Hoo! Just got home a litle while ago from New Hampshire Moot!! Rosie Cotton is just a darlin!! She dragged two of her brothers along, and I brought Clare and we had a great time! I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

I'm excited about the stockings! I'll be happy to provide the stockings and write the names on them! I think a glittery paint would be fun to use. I'll go over to the local Job Lots store tomorrow to see what they have. If they don't have any, I'll check out a couple of 'Dollar stores'.

Well, you might lift me up a bit to the Father tonight...this weekend stirred up my usual insecurities and I'm feeling a bit disheartened.

And on top of it all, the crowded noisiness of the weekend just accentuated my hearing problems...I was worried all the time that someone would say somthing and I wouldn't hear them or worse yet (and what happens more than anything else) that I might misunderstand them and answer inappropriately, thus causing them to think I am an absolute flake.

I don't know if this happened...but the stress of making sure it didn't really exhausted me. Just all the noise was very stressful. G'nad knows...he witnessed it in the roll-throwing restaurant...I couldn't wait to get out of there.

So you know I feel socially inept most the time, the hearing loss has just compounded that problem.

A good night sleep resting on the prayers of a friend would be highly appreciated.

Hey, don't feel disheartened.
Prayers, though.

I can't imagine you as inept.
But if we all are socially inept, the moot ought to be fun, or at least interesting.

You will be lifted up this evening...I must say though...if it makes you feel any better...I didn't notice you not understanding or not hearing anything I said while we were together. You are most likely ultrasensitive to it all...it's either that, or I am soooo oblivious to it all...living in my own little world. Wait, don't answer that. :-)

We were very excited to hear about the eggs and pancakes! How fun! How much older are your chicks than ours...ours were born July 9...that way we can give you all the countdown too.

Looks like Matthew had fun shooting his bow...you're such a good mom! It is fun to take the time to listen to them when they are excited like that.

Thanks for the updates 2J, now it's off to bed as we've had a long and tiresome weekend too.

Sheesh! Can't believe I just saw this for the first time.

When Gandalf flies off on Gwaihir, Saruman says "So you have chosen death." The next scene is Gandalf on Gwaihir flying over Caradhras. I think it's registered subconsciously before, but this time it was a "DOH!"

Question: Saruman appears to know that Gandalf with fall in Moria. Gandalf certainly sensed peril there. Did they both know how/where Gandalf would fall? Or was it just a premonition they had?

Discuss.

You know, it just had to really burn a few people that the 1,000,000th post was a vanity.

Did you hug Rosie for me?!?!?!?!!?

I'm so glad you went and had a good time! Is she as sweet in person? Don't you love her voice?

If you wanna do the stockings you are welcome. I'm sure they'll look much prettier if you do them than if I do!!! I will freepmail you the names tomorrow!!! They're not first names. He sent the rank and last name. And they're down to 16 guys because he said 6 were rotated to the rear - whatever that means.

Hi mrsnad. Would you ask mrnad what "rotated to the rear" means? In the army.

Not sure it answers your question directly but I've always had the idea that Gandalf either knew that balrog was in Moria or he perceived the great evil of the balrog without knowing exactly what it was. And in that, I have thought he sensed that he was about to have a moment when he had to face the evil and either grow to a new level or die. It has always struck me as a parallel for spiritual growth in myself. You get to the point where you know you're facing something that will either break you or make you closer to what God meant you to be.

Far as Saruman, I think he knows what's in Moria. I think he has discovered it perhaps from Sauron or just from discernment during his communion with Sauron. I think his knowledge of this was the reason he conjured the storm on Caradhras to force the guys through Moria. He didn't think they had a chance of passing.

I kinda thought his comment about "you have chosen death" was a vanity comment myself. Could be wrong. But, I thought it was ego saying there was no way his side could lose. I don't think Saruman thinks Gandalf and his mere hobbits have a chance.

that's my 2 pennies.

I was wondering that myself. I've been sending enough of everything up to now for 22 guys cause that's what was in the platoon when he got there. I didn't know there were less now until today.

I know Tom shares with guys that aren't in his platoon as well though. He has that thing he calls Lawn Chair Club that I told ya'll about. He kinda takes guys under his wing from all over. Guys that he thinks need a Christian influence or role model. If we have enough, I wouldn't mind sending a few spares.

Kinda checking in and sorta catching up....hard weekend...we are all still going through a good bit of adjusting here.
Soooo, I will make a feeble attempt to remember stuff to reply to. If it makes no sense, then it really will make no sense....sorry, anyway;
Wn, the stocking idea for the guys really sounds great. Count us in, and let us know if or how we can help. Finally got a little $$ in so I can mail some to you to help out some with the packages. Glad you are hearing from Myranda and that it sounds like things are going fine for her. Gads I remember that "clearing out their rooms after they leave" trip...bitter/sweet.
What's funny is when I finally had much of the girls rooms cleared out, cleaned up, and had thought it was going to stay that way, we now have Aimee' back with us, with a whole new batch of junk ...and it is slowly spreading out of her room into all the rest the house.
Anyway hope you are well.

So happy about the moot with Rosie and SuziQ, (can't remember who else). Sounds like you all had fun.

Will try to keep in prayer the requests expressed here in the HH this past weekend.

Terry is flying out very early in the am for New Jersey, then I think he will be leaving for Venezuela after the call in New Jersey. Appreciate your prayers for Venezuela.

Have been a bit under the weather this weekend and sorta dragging from it. About have the last of Flat Frodo finshed It is written, and Aimee' is currently working to get it ready for the site. Do hope they have not gotten too long, as we all get going developing it and having fun, but getting a little carried away.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

There are a wide variety of Christian analogies we can draw from that one statement....... as you very well know, Mr. Stormhands! :-)
