The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Oh yeah, barfing and getting it over with is best. But afterward, MBY suggested giving the juice. I gave him seltzer afterward, although I wished I had some gingerale, because I remember you mentioned it's good for upset tummy.

I'm having 3 Roy eggs with cheese and hotsauce for lunch.

Oh, I'm so glad! I was really worried that they would be super late!

I guess I can 'fess up now...that package didn't go out until Friday. There must be a VERY fast mail transfer between here and Texas. Same thing happened with the mint, as I recall - you send it on like a Monday, and I got it Wednesday. Something fast, in any case!

I apologize to Tom again for bein' one short on the warmers. You can tell him it's just that scatterbrained Rosie and her inability to do math.

Howdy to my fellow LOTR-ites!! I was in Walmart this morning when the worst swept through. Lights out in entire store! Heard there were two touchdowns in Wharton just south of Richmond. For some reason Wharton always gets the worst weather. By and large, everything cool here...just SOAKED. I'll be awash in the Gulf with too much more of this!

Wneighbor, per your earlier question, ((((Thank you)))) for asking...NOT going well. The grim possibility of us not getting into the new house at all looming quite large. We have one couple come through on Saturday (right when we were getting ready to go to see M&C, unfortunately. I felt bad for them, and hope they didnt get teh feeling we were trying to rush them out.) They were looking for their mother who wants to move here, but she apparently is looking for gas connections...and we *would* happen to live in the section of the subdivision that is purely electric. I have told our realtor to let them know we will throw in our (practically brand new) washer and dryer as part of the bargain, but I have not heard anything yet.

We either have the money to close, or we lose it ALL.

I know in the scheme of things I have no right to complain. I have a good friend who is in a more dire situation than I : her landlord has doubled the rent, and refuses to budge, despite pleas that she is on a fixed income. I feel almost as helpless for her as I do for myself. At least we have a steady roof for ourselves. I am thankful for that.

Still, I have been stressed because hubby and I laid so much on the line for this house, and everyone else has the advantage except us.

Forgive the babble. But that is one reason why I have not been posting as much. I have nothing else to do but sit at home and think about this all day.

God bless you all!

Mmmm! You're dang right! They are absolutely heavenly fried or made into omelettes.

They taste very mild...not a real strong "eggy" flavor. And the texture seems more tender...not so chewy.

The oldest one is 8 days old. I ate day 8,7, and 6. We rotate them in an foam egg carton in the fridge so we know which one is the oldest.

I wish the others would get the idea!

LOL Right! Well, it's gonna be fun when they do all start laying, because we almost have enough with just Roy laying for all our egg needs! With three more laying, we should be able to share with friends now and then.

You know, they say that a chicken only needs 4 sqft of coop space and 10 sqft of fenced in run, so you could literally keep a couple of chickens in a 4'x 9' area (4x4' of coop and 4x5' of run).

Course, you could half that with just one chicken, but chickens are flock animals and I don't think you should get just one.

Couldn't you have a couple? They are so fun! Then, in the evening, if you wanted to...you could let them out to free-range. They go to bed at dusk in their coop by instinct, so you wouldn't have to chase them back in.

My coop is designed for two chickens, and is too small for the four. That is why I free-range them all day. They just sleep in the coop we built.

I really don't even have that much space, unless I put them in the dog's yard, which wouldn't work all that well! And I don't have a fenced yard and live right on a road.

Someday I'd like to have a little bit of land further out of town. Then I can have chickens, and maybe a bigger dog, though they might cancel each other out. ;-)

For now, I'll enjoy your chickens vicariously...
