The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Oh! I meant to tell you - I really like your dress! You're right - very feminine and pretty. I like the little ruffle at the bottom!

Your hair looks great in that picture, too! I envy you that... ;) Some people have bad hair days....I'm having a bad hair life!

....what power is now within my reach. Sauron just better watch out...

BWHAAAAA.

Glad I could help. I may be an electrical wizard, but I find computers an excercise in frustration quite often.

2J - I found last week that my city does not have any written prohibition of fowl of any kind. I still need to research the CC&R's yet. We'll see.

G'morning everyone.

Heh...I'm OK, just notice when I move that I'm not as in shape as I should be! I kinda like that sort of pain...when it's not severe.

I did learn last year that a two hour hike that becomes an eight hour hike is a baaad thing, especially when you're not wearing the right clothes and you weren't that fit to begin with...

I was still able to walk, but just barely.

Just a quick note to let you folks know that my mom's knee surgery is scheduled for "sometime tonight". That's all we know, so far.

Our neighborhood convenants from 1955 have never been amended and we don't have an active neighborhood association. That covenant states that poultry can be raised for our personal use only (no egg-selling or some such). Now the covenant and the city ordinance says that we can't be a nuisance, so we'll have to be careful.

Steve was wanting to raise about 15-25 meat chickens. These chickens would be enclosed in a large tractor...that means, they would have a better quality of life than store bought, but would still be rather restricted. Fresh grass (the tractor is moved daily), nice bugs, special treats...but a limit on space. Too much exersize makes a chicken tough.

These chickens would be enclosed for a total of 8 weeks, then we would box them up and haul them to a processor.

This is the chicken tractor we're looking at building...although I would make mine nicer...this one looks a bit thrown together, imo. This 8x9' tractor is actually big enough for 50-75 broilers...but the quality of life goes down with that many chickens in that small a space. Ours would at most hold 25...they would have a pretty comfortable time.

We'll be praying.

I don't want to pry, but did I miss where you described what kind of knee surgery?

good morning everyone .. hope you all had a good weekend.

Well, despite the blackout, the show went on .. My bro opened on Broadway friday nite ... they power was back full by 2pm or so in the theatre district. everything went off without a hitch.

we had a casual weekend .. put all the mattresses in the living room floor friday nite, ate junk food and watched Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back with the kids .. lol.

then we went to steves dad's birthday bbq .. layed around in the cool hottub .. it was relaxing ..

now i'm back at work ... bleck!

have a great day, everyone!

You might check on this. Here, if a neighborhood association has not been active in some time, the covenants become unenforceable.
I'm not really sure what I'd like to do with any birds. I'm afraid my dog would go crazy with excitement, and drive everyone nuts.

I imagine they are unenforceable, because the people here are about half renters. But they could complain to the city if I'm a nuisance...then the city ordinance would kick in that you can't be a nuisance. You can have as many dogs, cats, chickens, anything...as long as no one complains.

But I'm a good neighbor...I wouldn't want to cause a nuisance, anyway. So I'll never have a rooster that makes it old enough to crow.

But we yearn to have our land...away from anyone we might annoy. The day I awake to my own rooster crowing will be a glorious day to me.

Good morning to all, even if it is a Monday.

Sorry to hear of the "not feeling so goods" for Jen and Rosie. Hope you will be better soon.

Jen, darling, you looked "absolutely fabulous" for the wedding. As my mother used to say when she was combing tangles out of my ratty hair, "I'm sorry, dear, but sometimes it hurts to be beautiful."
Jen, you are prob. weary from carrying around all that beauty and need rest...so get your "beauty rest" and with prayer, hopefuly, you will feel better. Corin's chicken soup is just the thing.

300winmag, hope all goes well for your mom's surgery...prayers for you all.

Rosie, sorry about those aches and pains Gads, I have them, but unlike you, I have no good excuse...not having been exercising and doing all those "good for you" active thingys. Well, at least you have a good excuse. Have a couple of Corin's meds. Hope you are better.

A good word for all:

August the 26th is only 9 days away!!! A "TTT" World, in our very own home, awaits us! There is a God!

You could set up a large bore rifle range, or maybe a trap and skeet range in your back yard. Then... they won't worry about the ckickens anymore. :-)
