There are places likes Orania which people thought were a front for the boeremag. Turned out to be untrue and as far as my ex says, they're pretty much left alone. Then there is Calvinia which is a bit more open to the world but the signs are still in afrikaans.

You are right about those two places. Orania is an old town bought out by Carel Boshoff and his group, Avstig (Afrikaner Freedom Foundation). It's a small town in the North Cape province with no large shops, a small hospital, library etc. The town is in private ownership, right of admission is reserved.. Not many whites are prepared to give up suburbia for that. The whole "Boeremag", AWB and any sort of large-scale white resistance pretty much disappeared with the scaling down of wartalk from General Constand Viljoen. There is still a lot of Afrikaans around SA, but that is slowly changing. The whole of the Limpopo province changed the names of towns, even those that were not named after Afikaners.
