Very nice, but that doesn't make a Nevada brothel "safe," any more than it makes the porn industry "safe." It makes them "tested," but as we see here, that means very little.

Let this fact sink in: this single infected male left a quarantine list of 65+ people, and apparently infected at least one of them. Not your "typical friday or saturday night" toll.

BTW: proper spelling, punctuation, and capitalization are our friends. You should try them some time.

The typical one nighter is far more risky from an exposure perspective than legal prostitutes or porn stars.

Possibly true, but I'm sure the "typical one-nighter" doesn't change partners quite as frequently as the prostitute or the porn "actor". I'm also sure those two "professions", statistically speaking, aren't filled with the most forward-thinking people on the planet. They're at a much higher risk for contracting HIV than the typical one-nighter - until the one-nighter plunks down a twenty, that is. Then the one-nighter gets to share in everything they have to give.

65 people are quarantined because they had sex with or had sex with someone who had sex with a known HIV infected person. If you applied this to the entire population you'd find a lot of people quarantined.

Fact is 2 people have tested positive, the original case, and a woman who he had anal sex with. The rest are quarantined, but not positive, and if you know anything about infection rates for HIV, not all 65, not even close to all 65 will come back positive, even with their highly promiscuous behavior, it is highly unlikely that 10% of those quarantined will come back positive.

Tens of thousands of americans walk the streets daily who are positive and don't even know it. You can continue your moral crusade, but its not based on facts or mathematical reality.

What consitutes "a lot" of people? Are you arguing that the geometric progression presented here - how one person has sex so frequently that they potentially infect almost six dozen others over the course of only a few short weeks - is representative of the entire population?

I am not arguing that porn stars or prostitutes have more partners typically than the average person, what I am saying is that the risk of infection is higher for the average person doing a one nighter, than there is for a porn star, or prostitute.

That's reality, I know morality junkies might not want to believe it, but its true.

Porn, most are tested every 3 weeks, and when an infection is caught quick quarantine and no more work... its not perfect, but nothing in life is. It does however work, the rate of infection in porn is incredibly low overall, especially given the high risk behavior.

To date not one legal prostitute in Nevada has turned up positive.

People confuse morality with reality. The reality is, the typical non porn or prostitute hooking up on a saturday night is placing themselves at a far greater risk statistically than a working porn star or legal prostitute for contracting HIV.

Because of this one infection that was quickly caught, there is 1 secondary infection and 65 under quarantine. Now its most likely few if any of those 65 who did not have direct sex with the original carrier will come back positive. THey are all under observation and are no longer a threat to others around them... those thousands of infections last week, most have no idea they have been infected, will continue their activities for months if not years before finding out they are infected, and put tens if not hundreds of thousands at secondary removal from themselves sexually.

That's just reality, I know doesn't jive with some peoples holier than thou attitudes, but it is reality.

Yes, but guess who's feeding the minute-by-minute news to the general press?

Why, the porn industry itself is! If this isn't a free commercial for "AIDS Testing - Brought To You By The California Porn Growers Association" I don't know what is.

Frankly, the only reason I even think it's worth discussing is because of the numbers involved (and, if you'll notice, that's almost all I've talked about on the subject). This first-infected "actor" was "conscientious" enough to have himself tested (on his own dime, presumably) every three weeks. And as I've already demonstrated, he changed sexual partners (on the job or otherwise) at least on the average of once every other day. Most of the porn industry, if you follow the tone of the article, aren't quite so conscientious about their promiscuity. So, for those less contentious, as they continue in their behavior, they take the risk of being infected by (or infecting) another three to four people every single week.

Testing doesn't stop the spread of AIDS. Changed behavior stops the spread of AIDS. Of course, some of us are at a very low risk for acquiring it, based on our behavior. That's where reality meets morality. Statistically speaking, some people would probably be angered by my morally-lowered health insurance rates or my morally-raised life expectancy. Welcome to reality.

Maybe I am naive, but I am still trying to figure out how someone has a "double anal" and still maintain control of their bowel movements (and not need stitches).

The existence of Baby wipes are actually an insidious plot to cause us moral junkies and our progeny to age prematurely, thus increasing the appeal/value of porn "actors" who can't afford to have that third boob augmentation, rib removal, or chin implant (I believe that's referred to as "chin-o-donture"). Interesting observation - you are actually arguing that the conservative message (which, surely, includes conservative morals) fails to resonate because the majority of people are either unswayably evil, or are secretly envious of such people.

none of the above. I'm saying that there are a good number of reasonable people out there who support the Terror War, favor lower taxes and less government spending, do not care for gun control, and would prefer less government intrusion in their lives.

However, they also see posts such as are represented here, and on the other threads regarding this matter, as evidence that "conservatives" are religious maniacs removed from the Taliban only by decree, and make their electoral choices on that basis.

Like it or not, there are people in our movement who give it a bad name. Calling for "fire and brimstone" on people who have contracted a deadly disease will do that to reasonable people.
