Which is interesting, considering that the key (if widely ignored) requirement for a workable libertarian society, is that people are either basically good, or are otherwise generally repelled by bad behavior.
OTOH, he is unquestionably correct that the conservative message fails to resonate with more people. It's difficult and uncomfortable to call sin by its name, especially in a society that is increasingly permissive about things that are very attractive, even if mistaken.
But it's also true that many conservatives are bound and determined to make people hate their message. I saw a quote yesterday -- don't recall where -- that seems to apply (concerning the English Revolution): Cavaliers: Wrong but Romantic; Roundheads: Right and Repulsive.
I will. I especially can't help feeling sorry for this Lara Roxx girl -- she no doubt has had messed up life already, and it's even more messed up now.
I read on a related thread that Darren James contracted HIV while doing a shoot in Brazil, and Brazil is notorious for sexual deviancy & debauchery. IMO James caught the virus while shooting up drugs or having sex with another man. Everybody likes to refer to Magic Johnson as the poster child for HIV in heterosexuals but Johnson never publicily admitted how or where he got the disease.
I think it's something that requires two men of ... er ... excessive endowment. And a girl who's willing to be treated like road kill.
This young woman was totally misled by the whole 'safe' sex line and obviously didn't make good decisions, buuuuttt, I wonder - are any of those advocates of sex-ed for the k-5 set reading this??? I can't decide if they are thinking perhaps grade 3(!!!) isn't early enough (I'm aware there is a movement to that effect) or just ignoring it because clearly it didn't help her much and seems to act as more of a 'how-to' than a preventative measure.
But damn, she's crazy.
And if the requirement (which is really a moral/religious statement about human nature) fails to be met, "morally neutral" libertarianism results in anarchy. Exactly the (silent) assumption I was trying to root out. Thanks!
It all depends on what's politically correct, Red6; whatever advances the "destroy the American culture" agenda ia always protected...
Yeah, I do feel sorry for her. Are you going to cast the first stone?
It's not the message- it's the messenger. I have no problem with people calling the porn industry immoral or even saying that the porn stars who caught AIDS here have themselves to blame, at the end of the day. However, to basically say that you don't even feel a twinge of pity or compassion for a 19 year-old who is now facing a death sentence? It's tough to figure out what goes on in some people's minds.
It reminds me of the anti-gay crusaders who picketed Matthew Shepperd's funeral and held up signs praising his brutal death. Some people make reptiles look loving.
Probably not. She was new in the industry and she was doing a video for what appears to be a smaller porn producer. I'd be surprised if she made anything more than $1000 for the shoot, if that.
High-end porn stars, like the one who work for Vivid (a publicly-traded corporation) can make good money and have a lot of control over who they work with, what kind of sex acts they have to perform etc. Girls just starting out have a lot less control.
