It seems to me that a good lawyer should always consider discussing a plea deal - if only to get a reading of the other side's confidence in its own case. What would be interesting to know is which side proposed this particular plea deal - Kobe, the DA, or the accuser.

I agree 100 percent; in fact, I believe they are required to listen and discuss the offer with their client.
