First of all, let me say that I know slavery is wrong. I don't want to be misunderstood about that, but I am from the south, (Tennessee), and history and the media has grossly exaggerated the treatment of slaves by the southern plantation owners. No one should be able to own another human being but at that time, it was a way of life. History has changed the truth of the pre civil war south and the truth will never be told.

Agreed. I mean, It's an inconceivable concept today. Then again, marrying outside of race was more or less taboo not too far back. "Dirtying one's race" and so on. Nowadays with highly integrated societies, it's commonplace. The point is yesterday's morality surely isn't today's morality. I'd like to to think that society has evolved. At least some have, but slavery is still a staple for many societies. Ironically, many of them are in Africa (paging Jesse Jackson... Anyone? Hello? Is this thing on?)

But yeah, the winners in this case wrote the history, and the liberals who twisted it after it was written did it in such a nefarious manner that we may never know the truth except as it has been told within our own families.
