If Lincoln protected the constitution, he would never have acted stubborned to the extent of fighting his fellow countrymen. The declaration of independence, and the Federalist papers all assure all states the right to split. If you think of it, let say you are planning to marry a girl, and you make her sign if she ever seek a divorce, you will beat her to death, would that be logical or moral? For you to understand my point, you must step back from whatever you learned, and do your own evaluation of what took place INDEPENDENTLY. Compare Lincoln with Gorbachev, think about would it have been the end of the earth if a few Southern States split from the Union? If they were "ALLOWED", what would the US look like today. My views the US would still be a huge country, with huge power, and the south separatist states would also be civilized progressive smaller nation that would have been a VERY close ally with the US.
