"You find out that Terri Schiavo's brain was reduced to half its normal size. She had no cognitive abilities. She was not aware of her own existence."

"It's tough to admit that you were wrong. Been there many times."

Including this time, Booratz. It's good to see some things never change. I directly challenge any forensic medical credentials you delude yourself into thinking you possess. Be half a man and sign up today to refute me, you Know-Nothing coward.

Girl With Half A Brain Going To College

BRISTOL, Pa. [June 2, 2005] -- A teenage girl has overcome incredible odds after graduating from a Pennsylvania high school with only half a brain...she didn't just have part of her brain removed -- as in ordinary epilepsy surgery -- she literally had half of her brain taken out.

Christina graduated from high school with honors in June.

"I'm seizure free. No medication or anything. I drive, I'm going to college in August and I'm very happy," Christina said. "I'm just so thankful for having a second chance at life."

The situation of the girl in your article is in no way comparable to Terri Schiavo's situation. Having the left or right side of one's brain removed is completely different from having 1/2 the mass of both sides of the brain disappear. The girl in your article had a complete half of a brain. Neither of the halves of Terri's brain were complete. She had no cerebral cortex.

Doctors explain that, to a large extent, the other hemisphere compensates in a child and takes over that function. Once you become an adult, however, that can never be done.

Did you miss this part of the article you posted about the girl with half a brain starting college? And do you not recognize that surgical removal of one hemisphere of a bilaterally symmetrical brain in an 8 year-old child is in no way comparable to cytotoxic loss of ~50% of the volume of the full brain in a 26 year-old adult woman, in terms of retained functionality and potential for recovery of function?

BTW, if you'd like to question my credentials, I have a PhD in behavioral neuroscience.
