People said the same thing when the Laci Peterson story was ongoing.

Some disappearances just capture an audience because they have all the right elements.

It's just a fact. When a very pregnant Laci disappeared from her nice little house on Christmas Eve, it grabbed a lot of notice.

The same with this.

It's not that no one cares when others disappear or are killed. There is no way to pay attention to every case like that.

But focusing on a few cases does draw attention to others along the way. And the media is more inclined to follow a story that has more draw to it.

I think it matters too when the family continues to push it. Laci's family certainly did so.

Now the young groom who disappeared 3 weeks ago on that cruise ship is not getting a whole lot of attention, partly I think because neither his family nor his bride seems to want to pursue this.

Can't quite figure out why, since they should be all over the news with this. That bothers me that they seem to want to sweep it under the carpet, maybe they're waiting till they get past some of their grief, but they should be striking while the iron is hot. Lots of evidence is lost already. Big mistake on their part.

You're not the only one. I'm hyper about my toothbrush when I stay in a hotel. Never ever leave it lying around.

Not knowing all the facts of this case, but can one assume the young man went overboard...either accidentally or pushed/shoved?

Funny, I heard reports that were just the opposite.

Where are you from , Onja? That looks like a Viet Cong Flag on your Homepage. Something you need to understand about Americans; we are very protective of our own.

Interesting Greta Blog.

What are they going to do...dig up each thing that shows up on the "ground penetrating radar" that they suspect might be Natalee? (I'm working on P*ssing people off :)

I know Theo, it got kinda lonely. Here's a blanket and a cup of hot tea. It'll wear off in a little while. :-)

Well, just in case you didn't leave in a hurry:

The fact the you ask "why this one person" tells me a lot about your perspective. If you look closely you will see that this is about more than just one person. It's about all of us. A parent, a child, two criminal investigative systems, two cultures, and the level of compassion from the public in both countries. You see, this case can bring to light how important getting to the truth is, not just in this case, but all cases. People on this thread have become so entrenched in the details because they care. And how do they get to that point? By watching the raw emotions of the families...on both sides of the issue.

The lame suggestion that this is 'just one person' comes from a narrow point of view. If you were interested in the being and had continued to follow it you might not have come here asking that question today. Or, maybe you would. Either way, you follow the things that truly interest you and we will follow the things that interest us. We are all allowed to do that. Aint't America great!!

It would certainly help if the "loving bride" got on TV sniffling just a little.

>If this TV coverage offends you in some way or if you don't care about the fact that this girl is missing and most likely is dead, I say to you (as the liberal Hollywood crowd loves to do) Don't Watch It. Censor yourself. You don't have to tune in

This situation
isn't just about ethics,
isn't just about

individuals
choosing to watch or tune out.
There is politics

at work in this "news."
All these endless stories that
are no one's business

except the family
at the center function to
condition people

to stick their damn nose
into everyone's business
as if it was theirs.

This is socialized
pop culture -- anything that
happens anywhere

is now the business
of everyone! Well, it sucks!
Mind your own business!

There was a lot of blood found in 3 different places.

He met with foul play, the man in the next cabin who I think was a policeman on vacation, heard loud male voices, several different ones, in the guy's cabin, and then a loud thud.

Outside the cabin window was a large, very large it looked like, amount of blood. And this happened off the coast of Turkey, so it makes it difficult to pursue this apparently.

But what really bothers me is that crime is being covered up on these cruise ships. Fox had a couple of interesting guests on last night. Apparently there are 2 rapes PER MONTH on EACH cruise ship.

There is no followup with the cruise lines, they want to sweep it away, in fact they do wash away all evidence as fast as they can, according to one of these guests. He also said there should be some sort of law presence on each of the ships, it might help to prevent or at least follow through on the crimes.

The case of the missing honeymooner is starting to get more attention. New witnesses have come forward.

Mind your own business!

"All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated...As therefore the bell that rings to a sermon, calls not upon the preacher only, but upon the congregation to come: so this bell calls us all: but how much more me, who am brought so near the door by this sickness....No man is an island, entire of itself...any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

---John Donne

Good, I hope so. I can't imagine just letting that go unsolved or at the least unpursued by his family.

Yes! The USA
used to be about people
respecting neighbors,

and, especially,
respecting the privacy
of all their neighbors.

When everyone starts
thinking they have the right to
make all the news theirs,

right thinking people
have to nip it in the bud
before it blossoms!
