MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Alabama Gov. Bob Riley called for a travel boycott of Aruba on Tuesday until authorities on the Dutch Caribbean island cooperate more fully with the family of a Mountain Brook teenager who has been missing since a graduation trip in May.
Riley asked the governors of the other 49 states to join him in urging a boycott of Aruba on behalf of the family of Natalee Holloway, an 18-year-old Mountain Brook High graduate last seen on the island May 30.
Her mother, Beth Holloway-Twitty, joined Riley at the Alabama Capitol for the boycott announcement. She contends Aruban authorities have failed to adequately investigate the possible murder of her daughter, who was with a teenager, Dutch national Joran van der Sloot, and Surinamese brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe on the night she disappeared.
They were held for a time and released.
This case would have broken had they really been involved. Kids crack under this kind of pressure unless they're innocent.
------
Or if they were never really interrogated and any thing incriminating they might have said thrown in file thirteen.
Plus the possibility of Joran's father helping in the body disposal and helping in the corrupt cover up.
The boys didn't crack because ALE didn't want them to crack.
There has to be an honest investigation before anyone would crack.
Sanctimonious You: "I teach my kids that they are responsible for everything they do. I agree. That's how I was raised by my parents. If everyone spent more time maintaining their own yards as it were, instead of telling others how they should raise their kids, we'd all be better off.
But you sure do blurt it out anyway, don't you in your post #144?:
What's moral about engaging in debauchery? Carlos and Charlie's isn't exactly a ride at Six Flags Over Chicago. Carlos and Charlie's is a bar/nightclub in a "red light" district, rampant with prostitution and drugs, which according to Aruban law are not crimes, but that doesn't excuse the fact that she went missing with three guys who happened to live on that island.
There's nothing moral about some beautiful girl with a squeaky clean image, engaging in sex, drugs, and alcohol, no matter how much you try to sugarcoat it.
And here you are critiquing Natalee for MAYBE, JUST MAYBE BEING POLITE TO SOMEONE BEING "NICE" TO HER in your post #162:
She thought he was a creep, so in essence, she gave him the time of day. Makes absolutely no sense.
Here's an idea: You should quit posting on this thread. You are embarrassing yourself.
Ummmm...wrong. But enjoy yourself being so emotional over this!
ANSWER THAT FITS......nat WENT WILLINGLY. For that SHE IS AT FAULT. Stupid to do such a thing in a foreign country with Strangers.
------
Let's assume you are correct.
So now what should we do?
Ignore it all?
Ignore the corrupt investigation and give the criminals one free murder?
She deserved it for her failure to use perfect judgement, so Aruba should not be held accountable for their corruption in this case?
How many Natalees will it take before it would be appropriate to notice Aruba's corruption and do something about it?
"And here you are critiquing Natalee for MAYBE, JUST MAYBE BEING POLITE TO SOMEONE BEING "NICE" TO HER in your post #162:

If you think that is critiquing natalie then maybe it is you that needs to stop posting on this thread....for it is you that looks foolish.
I agree that Natalie was acting recklessly, but I do not agree with your blaming the parents. Especially for blaming them because they divoced "after the kids get into college". Unless you are a close friend, or relative of the Holloway family, I highly doubt you are an expert on their personal relationships. :)
How many other countries has this happened in that we have never heard of? What the f#$k? Just because this one is on the news...every body on here thinks we should go to war with Aruba! $hit happens!
Congratulations on getting your house and life back! LOL :)
I would agree that the boys must be pretty tough cookies not to have cracked under questioning, if they are indeed guilty of either killing her or covering up a tragic accident. However, why is kidnapping the likely alternative possibility? If she was kidnapped, wouldn't the boys have been in on it somehow, and therefore in possession of hard to conceal guilty knowledge?
Isn't it much more likely she wandered off drunk and was swept away in the surf? So that they are telling the truth when they claim not to know what happened to her?
thank you for that post....you expressed exactly what i was thinking....i'm sick of people saying natalie brought this on herself.....and i support gov riley's call for a boycott....these punks killed her and the govt of aruba could care less!
Are you also the sort of person who would place blame on a rape victim because she happened to be wearing a short skirt and sexy blouse when she was brutally attacked? Or maybe blame ole granny when she went out for her birthday dinner celebration, got a little tipsy, and was raped and/or murdered on her way home?
"Ignore it all?

No not ignore it at all. I never said she deserved it, that is your statement(and others') not mine. I sure never said such a thing.
Just because you do something doesnt mean you deserve anything. That isn't the point at all. Learning FROM it is the point......in this case....learn that going with strangers, associating with strangers in a foreign country is quite dangerous and the choice to do so can produce very undesirable results.
Aruban officials should be held to account for their actions just the same. I do not say they should not be. I am all for a boycott....as a tool in the search for facts about this case.
Natlies case is enough for taking notice. Time it has taken till now justifies a call for a boycott (imho).
Trying to portray natalie as without fault is a counter productive strategy, imho.
Some will ( and have here on this thread) taken my statements about natalie to mean I do not back snapping on Aruban officials. On the contrary, Snapping on them is the right thing to do.
Well...bless your heart...for your well wishes for me!
I surely didn't mean to disturb your delicate sensibilities with my emotions. I know it's shameful for me to care about Natalee, please forgive me. I'll try to follow your example and harden my heart and blame eveyone and everything but the criminals.
Running away from your words, are you? Thought so.... What else were you implying in this statement:
She thought he was a creep, so in essence, she gave him the time of day. Makes absolutely no sense."
Once again I disagree. I do not think that most folks here "cannot handle personal responsibility". For you to say such a thing implies that you do not understand where some folks are coming from on this issue. I believe that the point that is being made is that by implying that a victim of a violent crime brought it upon his/herself is offering comfort and excuses to the evil person who perpetrated that crime.
What the f#$k?
----
Now, now...Follow your own advice...don't get so emotional. .
Here's an idea. Get a clue and stop projecting your ignoble and uncivilized behavior when your called on it, and while you're at it, learn the difference between "preaching to others" and "speaking one's opinion about someone elses said opinion". You're "preaching to others" while I am "speaking my mind about said preachings". I don't claim moral high ground, and you most certainly can't either.
That sentence gave me an idea. Everyone should book a hotel room in Aruba, wait a few days and then cancel that reservation with a note about Natalie attached.
I have never told you to "shut up". It may "seem" like that to you but that is your problem, not mine.
BTW, I'm not the one quoting my mother, you are. Too bad you didn't listen to her.
