It's probably a simple misreading of what America is about. It's commerce, same as England.

That is deeply reassuring. And over there, you have never had to endure what we have here: socialist governments bent on abolishing commerce! But they haven't (and will not) win.

That is correct. No matter what half-baked political systems the idealists propose, they never go so far as to propose to interfere with commerce except in their occasional and shortlived small communes.
