ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

The issue is the potential for infiltration by Al Qaeda and their sympathizers.

I don't see how the potential for that changes. I think it's always there.

"Naw, the Dems will shut up once they realize that the only US company that could actually fulfill this contract is Halliburton."

Two things:

Sen. Shumer has stated that he would support Halliburton over the Dubai company, that's how bad this thing stinks.

America should be ashamed of itself that we can't find Americans to do the job. I'd rather see it temporarily militarized than to hire our own enemies, (and Dubai openly supports the Taliban and the Iraqi 'insurgents'). And Dubai made it possible for the 9/11 terrorists to do their thing by providing fake passports and laundered money.

If we are to get hit again by terrorists, I'd prefer that it wasn't because of our own stupidity/insanity.

Dubai hasn't declared war on us..

Did I say they had?

You have a link to their declaration?

Dog, that's a pretty asinine thing for you to say! Muslims didn't declare war on us before they took down the WTC towers either. Over 3000 people lost their lives because of Muslims.

Do you honestly think that Americans want to give Muslims the opportunity, knowing that they will explode a nuke if they get their hands on one? All they have to do is get one into the NY port and they can take it right into NYC and kill hundred of thousands of people by detonating it. I don't think we need to help them by giving them easy access into our harbors.

"this is CLEARLY another rope-a-dope by the GENIUS karl rove, Bush is playing CHESS while the dems play CHECKERS"

How do you know that in fact that isn't the case here? If an override is guaranteed going in, Bush gives the Congressional GOP incumbency a chance to go back to the districts and say, "I'm my own man, I voted against the President on this major issue." Then Bush himself tells the Emirates that he went to the bitter limit for them, and thus they must make good to join a coalition supporting a pre-emptive strike on Iran. Then Halliburton gets the port contract after the elections.

Game. Set. Match.

The British don't seem to mind that the UAE company is going to own the company that runs their ports. Australia already HAS their ports run by the company, as does Germany.

Other allies have ports run by the CHINEESE company out of Hong Kong.

Well said.....the hyperbole is sickening. Did you see the posts that insinuated that the president is a homosexual with a preference for Arabs?

Well I'm late to the Bush bash here, but good for him, for denying the main two "qualities" of the democrat party, emotion and ignorance, which are paraded everyday by the MSM and by some who post on FR.

"the ONLY other bid came from a SINGAPORE company"

Hmmm...I didn't see that notice in the paper. Probably the governors, and represenatives from those state didn't either, due to the reaction.

I've got news for you. A terrorist who uses a dirty bomb or large chemical or biological weapon to attack a major U.S. city is far more likely to develop such a weapon right here in the United States.

Maybe I missed the part of that story about the "Abu Dhabi, UAE" postmark on those anthrax letters.

Maybe you failed to show that the anthrax in question was of domestic manufacture and not from a foreign lab.

Oh, and the anthrax attacks were very small. And what is the best way to bring in a large weapon?

Ships.

It will be far easier for terrorists to get completed materials abroad on the black market, asssemble the device and ship it here. And all it would take would be a couple of sympathizers in management telling them where the security holes are.

he is against America defending itself from foreign invaders.

You are off your rocker ..

Well, let's just say the President's comments are inconsistent with his beliefs. Why?

Unbelievable. Rediculous. Stupid. Should we give them the airports, too?

Say bye-bye to winning in 2006 and beyond, all thanks to Dubya.

"The UAE, Saudia, and Pakistan were the only countries to recognize the Taliban.....interesting to see the pro-muslim elements here ignore this very uncomfortable fact."

Further, Dubai is supporting Hamas. I'm not anti-Islam, in general. I'm anti-terrorist. That said, I don't trust Islamic governments at all.

I do not want any company that is wholly-owned by an Islamic government to have anything to do with our ports.

I don't think it matters if Congress is able to override. It is the fact that it's this little issue that he chooses to go to the mattresses over. THAT is the part that's concerning. We don't have all the pieces of the puzzle, that's for sure. But I can't honestly say that I trust him, or his merry band of neocons. I used to trust them, but after the screwing they've given Israel, and their determination not to protect the borders, I don't trust them at all.

It almost seems like the fix is in for a Dem take over of Congress. To do something this nuts is suicidal.

Nothing like that. What will happen, is that the Democrats are going to be exposed for the xenophobic racists they are, and we will pick up more seats in both houses in November. The Democrat capacity for over-reaching knows no bounds.
