AP ALERT

Posted on 02/21/2006 12:32:20 PM PST by Brian Mosely

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

Don't you think a certain sense of xenophobia is setting in? I know that anytime 9-11 is mentioned, people panick but El Presidente makes a great point.

"He(BUSH) said he would veto any legislation to hold up deal and warned the United States was sending 'mixed signals' by going after a company from the Middle East when nothing was said when a British company was in charge... Lawmakers, he said, must 'step up and explain why a Middle Eastern company is held to a different standard."
For the first time I feel as if the fear of ANYTHING Muslim may further isolate us in a region with one true ally.

"And silent over a Commie dictator running an American oil company.

And when the German telephone monopoly owns a US cell phone company."

Hey, two more threads, I'll get right on it.

Kings are not elected.

Presidents can be changed every 4 years...but you knew that.

If it involved classified data as opposed to public data, there would not be a foreign, uncleared person in the loop. That would mean an organizational structure with only cleared US citizens in operations like security and plant protection.

A general security alert in any company would of course go to everyone, cleared or not, and you'll find that in any company.

The original concern was one of classified or privileged data being given to foreigners inappropriately, and that "firewall" stuff goes on all the time.

In a US airport today, the tower handles classified data relating to national security, and they don't need to share it with the guy who runs the shoe shine or the girl at the pretzel kiosk, or the general manager of the airport if he is not cleared or eligible.

Pretty soon you're going to come out against profiling Middle Eastern men at airports. Maybe we can start shipping some white collar prisoners down to Gitmo just to even things out. We wouldn't want to look like bigots.

People here are reacting with the same ignorance that they did after Alito's first vote.

No, this is more like the reaction after the nomination of Harriet Miers. I don't know if I have an opinion one way or the other on this issue, but I'm sure Carter thought he had sound reasons for giving up control of the Panama Canal.

"I don't know enough about the UAE to be sure, however. I thought they had a monarch?"

You are correct, sir. And this monarch is the son of the previous monarch.

Oh are you ignorant. His guest worker plan is amnesty simply because they won't throw anyone out after six years. If you believe otherwise, you are drinking way too much whiskey.

I do not listen to him much any more. Only occasionally and just to see how he is going to spin something. It is very telling I think sometimes to see how he handles things. I listened from 1990-2005, just stopped last year this time. The excuses he made before the election regarding illegals and how he managed to reign so many of us in back then are scary. I don't know how he does it, but he pulls it off. So many can be so clear and sure as to what the right position is, such no brainers as is this UAE issue - and still he can get folks to second guess themselves...you should of heard him going on about being in UAE before Afghanistan. It all gets more and more tin foil creepy everyday!

I don't think The British are Pro-Terrorist.

P&O sold their operating control to the UAE.

If you're referring to Bush, the answer is no. He lives in a world where islam is a religion of peace, beautiful in its heart. Those "few" terrorists are just giving this beautiful manifestation of faith a bad name.

He lives in a world where murdering dogs in Iraq become part of a democratic govt. and everything just fine for liberty and freedom. Every dead American a sacrifice to this "noble " cause.

He's not fighting a war against the ideology which is the source of the terror. He's pretending to change wild tribal beasts into reasonable, decent human beings who are willing to live in peace among their neighbors.

He's done damage that perhaps cannot be undone with this deal to make a muzzie state happy.

It should have never seen the light of day. Now when it doesn't go through, a further excuse for more butchery by the muzzies will be fabricated.

If that's what we must endure to keep any port of entry in this nation out of muzzie hands, so be it.

I heard LImbaugh suggesting that there may be good economic reasons to have UAE run the ports. I heard some guy from stratfor saying that having UAE run the ports would increase the danger of something happening, but not by much.

I found both of these statements astounding. Any economic benefit or even the slightest increase in threat are not acceptable.

O'Rielly says we can't re neg on the deal because of possible repercussions from the mussies. I don't believe we can jeopardize the security of this country just so we won't anger muzzies.

Even if they weren't directly in charge of security, they would be aware of all aspects of its protocols and operations. They can't run the port without knowing all of it. That compromises any security measures that might be put in place.

It was totally irresponsible of all of those involved that brought us to this point and they should be held accountable. I don't think anyone involved in trying to run this under the radar can be trusted to maintain the security of this country or its people.

"Dubai hasn't declared war on us..
You have a link to their declaration?"

Official State religion of Dubai? islam?
Do they support sharia law? Yes.

Shall we start with OBL's offer of a truce? Do you offer a truce when you are at peace? Does OBL represent al-quaeda or islam or both? (hint: BOTH).

Shall I do a google search for you of imams who have issued fatwahs against the US and Israel? I believe in the sharia law model, the fatwahs and declarations of jihad are valid for all muslims. muslims are muslim first, their nation comes further down the line.

Arm yourself with the facts first!

The UAE is NOT taking over our port security like you have probably been told to believe from Bush hating IDIOTS like Mike Savage. The UAE is merely taking over the business management portion. Port Security is still handled by the DHS and the Coast Guard. And more so now than ever before!

Port ownership was never ours in the first place. They are mostly foreign owned now and always have been. MAERSK, a Danish company, is one of them who owns 80% of all shipping interests. The UAE also owns others around the world as well as Europe.

"Don't wait to hear from President Bush first. Don't wait for detailed facts to emerge. Just let your emotions run wild. A full airing is required. I am not afraid of facts are you? On its face, the deal stinks, but I don't have the details."

I HEARD BUSH SPEAK TO REPORTERS IN THE last hour! My eyes and ears didn't deceive me..

He wants the deal to go thru..and those are the facts. Nothing else matters...LOL.

Exactly!

Without knowing all the facts, the only way to turn this into a positive, in the short term, is to reframe the debate to Dem. hypocrisy. No racial profiliing of individuals but do it to a whole nation and it's o.k.
This better be spun quickly for damage control.

"Details and facts are needed and they will emerge soon. "

As long as all these details and facts are emerging, maybe he can explain why he didn't veto CFR, and explain his border stance.

Not holding my breath, though.
