They've got an interesting bait-&-awitch going on down here in Texas now. THey're going to raise the tax on cigarettes by a buck a pack (and raise the so-called Franchise Tax on businesses). I think they hope everybody will get focused on the sin tax and forget about the business tax, which is much more onerous. Seems to be working. I heard a news report that lead "Smokers will pay more to light up if...". The franchise tax was not even mentioned.
And where will they get their sin tax money if everyone quit smoking? You know they won't give up that money - everyone will have to pay a sin tax!!!!
