FOLKS, YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS AUDIO INTERVIEW TAYLOR HICKS GAVE WITH THE FOLKS AT ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE ....

THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST AND BEST INTERVIEWS TAYLOR EVER GAVE AND GIVES A VERY PERSONAL INSIGHT INTO HIS MUSIC, HIS BACKGROUND AND HIS MOTIVATION FOR JOINING AMERICAN IDOL. THIS INTERVIEW ALSO SHOWS HIS KNOWLEDGE OF A WIDE RANGE OF MUSIC AND SHOWS HIS PLANS FOR HIS NEXT ALBUM....

THIS INTERVIEW IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONES HE HAS DONE ON TV ( which usually asks the same silly questions such as "How did you feel when you won ?") BECAUSE THIS INTERVIEW SHOWS THE PASSION HE HAS FOR HIS MUSIC. SOMETIMES, IT TAKES A SKILLED INTERVIEWER TO BRING OUT THE BEST IN YOU.

YOU MUST HAVE REAL PLAYER INSTALLED TO BE ABLE TO LISTEN TO THIS :

http://play.rbn.com/?url=rstone/rstone/demand/podcast/taylorhickspodcast.mp3&proto=rtsp

Taylor seems to know what he's getting into and is using this as a stepping stone to greater things ( here's hoping ...).

Here's something interesting in that interview --- HE CALLS HIS AGREEMENT WITH AMERICAN IDOL --- DANCING WITH THE DEVIL (a play on the Bruce Springsteen song he sang in the finals).

This is from Rolling Stone Mag :

Interview With Rolling Stone

http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/10464788/audio_interview_taylor_hicks_mixed_feelings_about_american_idol

His crazy dance movies, big laugh and antic American Idol performances may have earned Taylor Hicks millions of Soul Patrol fans. But just a few days after winning season five, Hicks stepped out of his goofy oddball mode during a visit to Rolling Stone's office. Calmer and clearly exhausted from weeks of competition, the gray-haired twenty-nine-year-old shared some mixed feelings about the show that boosted him to national fame. His Idol stint, he now says, was like "dancing with the devil."

At an US Weekly lunch earlier in the day, Hicks looked back on the endless days of rehearsals and filming B-roll interviews and revealed some behind-the-scenes details: The contestants barely got to meet the celebrity guests (Prince came and went, though Hicks made an effort to track down Stevie Wonder and spend some extra time with him) -- and the judges were distant too. "I would see Simon in the hallway and he'd say, 'Good luck' and give me his Cowell scowl." Taking Cowell's sometimes harsh on-air criticisms could be a challenge: "I just kind of bit my tongue through the whole process. I decided to let viewers decide what they felt about Simon, as opposed to me."

Hicks occasionally rips his own performances, especially his rendition of John Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads." "I saw that clip and thought to myself, 'Man you are flat all the way through that song." Though he admits that he sometimes spent Tuesday night after the show at Burger King voting for himself, he also cast a few for his competitors. "I'd vote on the performance as opposed to who I liked as an artist," he says. "I voted for Elliot, for Chris a couple of times, for Katherine. It was funny because we'd be in the apartment or somewhere and I'm like, 'I'm voting for you, you know.' And they're like, 'What?'"

Next, Hicks will join the Idol finalists for a July U.S. tour, and he'll start recording his first major release -- which he hopes will include some of his original songs. (Hicks has already recorded two self-released albums, In Your Time in 1997 and Under the Radar in 2005.) Listen to his interview with contributing editor Jenny Eliscu for more details about his pre-Idol career, his next steps and his favorite Who song.

AN UN-NOTICE NEWS THAT MIGHT HAVE IMPLICATIONS FOR TAYLOR HICK'S CAREER...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060602/media_nm/media_sonybmg_dc_2

Two execs quit Sony BMG Music in power struggle

By Sue ZeidlerThu Jun 1, 10:43 PM ET

Corporate drama continued at Sony BMG Music Entertainment on Thursday with the resignation of two top executives at its Sony Music Label Group U.S., home to stars such as Beyonce and Gretchen Wilson.

Music industry veteran Don Ienner, who in March added chairman to his title of Sony Music Label chief executive, and Michele Anthony, who only became president and chief operating officer last December, both resigned, effective immediately.

Rob Stringer, a 20-year veteran of Sony Music, was named president of the U.S. label group, effective September 1.

Sony BMG, the world's No. 2 recording company and a joint venture between Germany's Bertelsmann AG and Japanese electronics giant Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news)., has been shaken in the past year by an executive power struggle.

The departures of Anthony and Ienner, credited with helping steer the careers of artists Whitney Houston and Kenny G. and initiatives at Sony such as revitalizing its Nashville labels, mark the latest management shakeout at the company.

Sony Music Label Group U.S., which includes Columbia Records, Epic Records, Sony Music Nashville and Sony Urban Music, will be run in the interim by Tim Bowen, Sony BMG's chief operating officer.

Ienner, who in 1989 became Columbia's youngest president at the age of 36, began his career in 1969 in the Capitol Records mail room while in high school, and worked at Arista Records alongside record mogul Clive Davis, now chairman of BMG U.S.

A lawyer who has represented acts from Sony and Bertelsmann said Sony BMG pitted the two executives against each other.

"Clive was Ienner's mentor and then when Ienner left, they became competitors. The rivalry goes back a long time," said Owen Sloane, a music industry attorney.

"It's been a power struggle in the U.S. between the two companies. I think the powers that be wanted to consolidate the company and had two massive legends competing, with Clive Davis on one hand and Don Ienner on the other," said Sloane, who represents Chris Daughtry, an American Idol finalist who recently signed with a Bertelsmann label.

Management trouble began when Bertelsmann grew dissatisfied with how Sony BMG was run, and Sony ultimately agreed to a swap at the top this year. Sony BMG CEO Andrew Lack, who had run Sony Music, took the less-hands-on position of chairman, while former BMG CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz moved from chairman to CEO.

Thank GOD that Taylor Hicks is signed with J Arista records and not BMG.

Hey folks,

THE SINGLE — "DO I MAKE YOU PROUD" ISN’T EVEN OUT YET ( AS OF THIS WRITING), BUT SOME HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION CEREMONIES ARE USING THIS SONG AS THEIR THEME. SEE THIS FOR INSTANCE :

I also heard about a woman planning to use this song to dance with her father during her wedding.

HOW COOL IS THAT ? ( note : I used to think the song is schmaltzy and sappy, but hey, somehow it seems to have touched a nerve ).

FOR FANS OF CLAY AIKEN...

http://www.celebrityspider.com/news/june06/article061906.html

Alleged Clay Aiken Lover Apologizes for Selling Story 6/19/06

The man who boasted about allegedly having a one-night stand with American Idol runner-up Clay Aiken "regrets" selling his story.

John Paulus, a former Green Beret, told American tabloid The National Enquirer he had sex with Aiken after the wholesome singer, who had seen his ad on a gay website, contacted him in December (05).

The accusations sparked outrage from American Idol judge Simon Cowell who rubbished the story as just "rumors" when it was published in March (06).

But now Paulus claims on a web blog he is sorry for the scandal his story caused Aiken and insists he even took legal steps in a bid to stop it being published.

Paulus writes, "I regret defying the trust of Clay.

"I regret hurting him, his family and his fans; I regret that I started a blog that ridiculed him. I apologize to Clay for that and I hope he will accept."

Editors at the National Enquirer have rubbished his apology and deny receiving a cease-and-desist letter to stop the kiss-and-tell hitting newsstands.

National Enquirer editor David Perel tells website The Scoop, "(Paulus is) completely distorting the story. It's not a situation where he told the story one time.

"He engaged in multiple conversations with our reporter. He couldn't stop talking, and then he talked to reporters after it was out."

Hey Everyone...well, i just got up and you guys are so efficient you beat me to it!!!!

Taylor finally called me last nite at 6:25 california time!! he was obviously very busy, but we had a very nice conversation. In this conversation taylor DID say that he still had not gotten the couch, but that he was going to be on the road for god knows how long and what he wanted me to do with the money was to split it between kid one transport AND studio by the tracks, so that is what i will be doing...i can't say for sure WHY he said what he said on leno about buying a couch. I think it was just a shout out to all of you that his life is good now and he is able to make all of his dreams come true thanks to the soul patrol. i will be making the donations while in b'ham in august and anyone that wants to accompany me to do this is welcome to come. he said both charities are in b'ham. the donations will be made in honor of "taylor's couch" and the soul patrol. i feel like everyone else...i wish we could have put a couch in his living room, but he knows the donations were thru much love and he wants to do something worthy with the money and this was his decision to make...below is a short email that he composed for me to post to you guys...he told me to thank all of you for everything as well!!!!

Hello to all Soul Patrol, Taylor here and very busy... Thank you so much for the donation of the couch money, but what I think we should do is give it to two of the charities ..Kid One and Studio By the Tracks.. These are great organizations and I am thrilled to know that this money will go to an admirable cause..Thanks so much and love to the Soul Patrol!!!!

Strictly for Taylor Hicks fans...

The blogger, Gray Charles ( see his wesite : www.graycharles.com ), was able to snag a detailed interview with Taylor Hicks, when Taylor himself called him after Gray's request to Taylor's PR man for an interview.

Taylor actually is AWARE of Gray Charles' website and visits it occasionally and admits to ADMIRING the content of the site.

(NOTE: Taylor DOES visit the American Idol blog sites as well as the fan boards and occasionally asks his friends to post on his behalf ( for instance, he asked his friend, Connie to relay to folks who have been gathering donations to buy him a new couch to give the money instead to his favorite charities -- KIDS ONE and STUDIO ON THE TRACKS ).

Suffice it to say that Gray Charles has earned Taylor's trust and he opened up to him in an 8 part interview which you can view in Gray Charles' website.

I'd say it is by far, THE BEST INTERVIEW OF TAYLOR HICKS BAD NONE. You get to see an insight into the kind of person and musician Taylor Hicks is.

Pinging you to a good article by Doug From Upland:

ADOPTION TODAY MAGAZINE
August/September 2006

Adoptive Father and Rock Star: Chris Daughtry
By Douglas Cogan

His wife Deanna has said people might think he is boring around the house. As an adoptive father, he has much in common with other fathers. He works hard for his family, attends PTA meetings, stops by his son’s school for lunch, and rides scooters down the street with his son and daughter.

As much as he has in common with other dads, however, Chris Daughtry’s story is far from common. After all, this rocker from small town McLeansville, N.C., is soon to become a major rock music star.

Music fans were introduced to the Daughtry family on the music talent search show, American Idol. Fans were immediately captivated with Chris and Deanna. With tears in her eyes, she told the story of how Chris, who is several years younger than her, married her and took on her two small children. Deanna told the audience that he was a great father and husband, and this was his chance to realize his dream.

Deanna nervously waited with a friend outside the audition room in Denver. Would America finally get to see her husband’s talent, the talent that was well-known to a growing fan base in Guilford County? Guilford County was far from Hollywood, and McLeansville is hardly the typical venue where agents search for talent. Chris needed a shot to get noticed.

With his audition completed, Chris walked out the door. He was not holding the yellow paper, which signified the ticket to Hollywood and moving on in the competition. When he suddenly took off his cowboy hat and showed the yellow paper he had hidden, Deanna screamed for joy, broke down, and embraced her husband. The man whom she loved so much was going to get his shot. Others who were also auditioning gave them a big round of applause. One shouted out, “Way to go, Chris!” Indeed, that was the day music fans fell in love with the head-shaved rocker, Christopher Adam Daughtry.

As the television journey continued, Chris rocked the audience with amazing performances. When he performed Hemorrhage, by the rock band Fuel, judge Randy Jackson told him that the song could be on the charts by him right now. He was that good. Many people believed that Chris was the best performer on Idol and would be the winner.

It was not to be. Fans, the judges, and even fellow performers were shocked when the voting audience eliminated Chris from being in the final three. Petitions were put on the Internet claiming telephone voting irregularities and demanding a recount. But Chris would be okay. He had been noticed by a worldwide audience. Looking at it philosophically, he commented that, “When one door shuts, another opens.”

That door was opened by American Idol. Chris dreamed of becoming a rock performer since he was 16 and attended a concert by Live, still his favorite band. Since appearing on American Idol, lead singer, Ed Kowalzcyk, has become a friend and mentor. Chris joined Live for a performance of the new hit song Mystery on the season finale of American Idol. The cameras showed Deanna cheering, and her lips could be seen saying, “That was awesome!” The dream was coming true, but it was not easy getting there.

To compete on American Idol, Chris took a leave from his job as an automotive service adviser, Deanna had to work an extra job to make ends meet. Because money was tight, Deanna was only able to travel to Hollywood a couple of times to watch her husband perform. Also, during the competition she had a hysterectomy, but she insisted Chris needed to stay in Hollywood and pursue the dream, rather than be at home with her during the surgery.

It was definitely a long way from where they had first met at a birthday party and sensed an attraction to each other. Chris told Deanna that he was in a rock band and invited her to watch them play. When he finally met her children, Hannah and Griffin, Chris told her that he loved them already because, “They are little ‘yous’.” Six months after they met, Deanna walked down the aisle and became his wife.

Tracey Adams has been a friend of Deanna’s for several years. She attended the wedding and told of a story that is a genuine Kleenex moment. Chris took Hannah and Griffin aside, told them how much he loved them, and promised that he would always be there for them. At 20 years old, Chris was sage beyond his years.

When Griffin was 4 years old, his biological father died. Chris immediately told Deanna that he wanted to adopt Griffin. A short time later, he was officially an adoptive father.

Fast forward several years and it was Chris’ turn to give back to other adoptive families. The entire McLeansville homecoming weekend in early June was all about children. There was a parade, Chris performed for them, watched them perform a skit for him, and told a group of kids under a tent to never give up on their dreams. Also, “do your homework.”

All proceeds from the concert in Greensboro, featuring his band Absent Element, went to benefit the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. Adoptive families sat up front in a special section. Tommy Lineberry, Special Events Director for the Greensboro CHSNC, was overwhelmed with the generosity -- Chris wanted to do all this for the children without being asked. There are more than 3,000 North Carolina children who have been cleared for adoption. Chris told reporters at his press conference that he just couldn’t relate to what some kids have to endure. “Every child,” he said, “deserves what I had growing up – a loving home.”

Not only did the children benefit, but so did Chris with a true southern welcome home party. Little McLeansville, a town with one shopping center and no gas stations, wanted to give Chris a proper welcome home. Retired ladies worked in the Chris Daughtry storefront, selling tee shirts and raising funds to help the family. Everyone helped with signs and yellow bows.

The McLeansville homecoming was put together in record time by the Friends of Chris Daughtry, under the leadership of next door neighbor, Tammy Sharpe Lowdermilk . Tammy’s daughter Abigail was thrilled when Chris took the time to call her from Hollywood to congratulate her for making it through the first round of the local Triad Idol competition. “It made me feel really good,” she beamed.

Chris and Deanna’s dedication was also noticed by actress Maureen Van Zandt and husband Steven Van Zandt, both of The Sopranos fame. The couple was so impressed with his journey, his musical talent, and his humanity that they sent loads of gifts to the family. But beyond that, they did something more important. They offered their names and fundraising help for charity to assist Chris in helping children. As Maureen stated, “If you can’t use your celebrity for good, it is of little value.”

Those suspicious of Hollywood image making still have questions. “Is Chris really as he is portrayed or is he a manufactured image invented for ratings? Is he really the great father, humble young man, and genuinely good human being we think we see?” After meeting him in person and speaking with friends, family, acquaintances, local reporters, a PTA president, a school principal, a law enforcement official, the head of an adoption agency, and many others, the answer is clear. Yes, he is. Chris Daughtry is the real deal.

The Daughtrys plan to stay in Guilford Country because, as Chris commented, “L.A. ain’t home.” They are preparing their children for how sudden fame will affect their lives.

Chris thanks God for his talent and recognizes Deanna as his inspiration. He has an enormous opportunity to continue helping children. There is no doubt by those who know him best that he will follow that path. After all, this is the humble rocker who lists teaching his son to ride a bike as his greatest accomplishment.

Douglas Cogan is a freelance writer, a former teacher, and the father of two wonderful grown children.

Wow! Pickler seems to have gotten with exactly the right people to put together her debut album. Her weaknesses as a singer are still obvious on the slower tempo numbers, but most of the stuff on that album is very marketable. The lyrics are cliche-ridden but that's not necessarily a negative in the market she's targeting. Good luck to her.

Audio clips are at the link.

Sony has made available clips of Chris Daughtry's new album ("Daughtry", which is the name of his band), due out later this month (11/21). Skip to "Used To"-- which I am predicting to be a #1 hit for him off the album because it has a fabulous hook and it is pop radio friendly and about a man who is sort of begging for his relationship with his woman to be the way it was-- making it sort of a love song--(which will be popular with women listeners) and Chris sounds great on it (he sounds great on all the clips, though-- I still am dumbfounded that he didn't win Idol because he really is a natural as a recording artist). I have listened to it dozens of times already and am not the least bit tired of it, yet. It's very catchy. I can't wait to hear the whole song.

I don't hear any unicorns and rainbows songs on here, so Sony BMG knows what Chris is and what Chris is not.
