Mel Gibson's statement on his DUI arrest
GrandForksHerald.com ^ | 7/29/06

Posted on 07/29/2006 1:51:47 PM PDT by LdSentinal

The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.

"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.

"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

In an interview a few years ago, when he was asked about his father, he got a bit testy and said "do not ask me about my father" or words to that effect. He did not disown his father's opinions in any way...

Has Jesse Jackson apologized for "Hymietown" yet? Has Hillary apologized for calling whoever it was (name escapes me at the moment) a f***ing Jew bastard?

I'm not calling for Mel to apologize for what he said. He is free to believe and say whatever the hell he likes. He's obviously expressing his deep belief that Jews are the evil ones and he is certainly not alone there. Had Mel been born 80 years earlier in virtually any European country (maybe even the U.S.), his statements would have gone unnoticed or even met with widespread approval. He has the misfortune of living in a PC society.

I doubt they'll get around to that--they're drunk on a little self-righteousness and need to romp.

A Muslim can gun down Jewish women in Seattle, but a boozing producer of a monumental work on Jesus gets caught saying the Naughty...? Priceless.

Jesus was not a Jew. He was a black nubian prince put to death by white romans. At least that is what I was taught in my black history class.

No, I don't think anyone who spews anti-semitism is "teh cuuuuuute". We had some giggles on a Mel thread yesterday & my comment was made in jest.

Sorry if my comment offended.

Yorlik803:

He was .04 over the line for crying out loud. If he is the Alkie like you say he is, that isn't nothing.

Rational comment. To an 'experienced drinker', .012 is not a big impairment. -- In fact, not that many years ago .010 was the 'impairment level' in CA.

sinkspur:

Uh, Mel Gibson himself says he's an alkie. And the report, as given on TMZ, said that he was observed weaving between two lanes of traffic.
That's drunk, and dangerous.

No, that's a biased report from those who observed him, -- and an abject apology from a man trying to save his drivers license. -- Which I doubt he can.

Read Gibson's statement again. He admits he lost control.

He lost control of his temper sinky, not his car or his 'drinking'. --- Now he's lost control twice, -- once to the cops, and again in allowing his 'publicist' to put out this apology. - I see no reason to apologize for having a few drinks & then driving home. I do it at least once a week when we go out to dinner.

And there are millions like me. Learn to live with it.

In case you don't understand what's going on in this world..every Jew has a target on their heads. That includes me and probably 25% of the people on this website. The last thing we need is a high-profile AMERICAN Celebrity saying things like this.

You're sounding a little like Democrats such as Jesse Jackasson. They go and play politics for the Dems. before elections in the churches..... nothing is said. But if someone works the churches for the Republicans...... all hell breaks loose.

Are you saying that the Jews cannot be criticized..... but everyone else can?

Just asking.

Hildy, like I said in an earlier post, I read his statement, three times now. He apologizes for things he said but I personally do not know EXACTLY what he said and neither does anyone else here. I have lost some respect for Mel and am disappointed in him but I will withhold judgement until I see a video or here audio. I definetely will not condemn him to hell though.

Like I stated in an earlier post I have two brothers currently in law enforcment, one a city officer, one a county and one retired brother of 28 years as a Lt., and I spent 11 years in investigations.

What is in this report may be 100% true and it may not. I have seen my share of exaggerations and some lies written in reports, even though 99% of officers are truthful.

Would you expect to make excuses or explain your father? Or are you a separate person?

let me guess, you had a pretty bad alcoholic close to you in your life. Right?

Actually, I grew up with a racist father. It was not until I left home that I realized how much poison he had spread around. I don't know how much of it was intentional, since he himself was raised by racist parents.

What are you on about? He's correct.

Hildy is a target for all the craziness out there, a real target.

I've feared for my family's safety, and I know how it feels.
She's scared.

Be nice. :-)

"Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, confirmed to me just now that "the contents seem to be similar""

Thanks for the link. I will still wait to comment till the offical report is out. However i wasnt commenting on the "reported report" but rather on a reply to a message that was deemed anti-semitic.

Mel is good buddies with Michael Moore. His production company was to produce Pahrenheit 9/11, but back out at the last minute giving no explanation.

"In March 2004 he expressed doubts over the Iraq war, in particular the failure to find weapons of mass destruction, although he maintained that President George W. Bush had "done a lot of good" elsewhere. At the People's Choice Awards ceremony in January 2005, Gibson again condemned the Iraq war and praised the liberal director Michael Moore and his documentary film Fahrenheit 9/11"

I'm not even going to pass my own judgment on Mel yet, but I wish he hadn't said what he did. I guess we'll see what he does next.

Agreed. If I had a dollar for all of the things I've said and done that I regret...

All of us have both good and bad within, we have responsibility to keep the bad under control. We're all bound to slip at times, but we also need to keep in mind sometimes a slip can do irreparable harm.

Amen. Sometimes we have to learn this lesson the hard way, and sometimes we have to learn it more than once before it really sinks in.
