The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
I can completely agree with that statement! Amen!
I just now read it. It's not good to assume things and now you know.
It looks like to some conservatives that comments are fine if the one making them is a conservative as well, so it goes both ways.

I still wouldn't mind dolling out a spanking. Anti-Semitism sucks and he should be punished by all means possible.
I say her essential point (there is a HUGE double standard) is well taken.
I'll sum it up. Merl Gibson said some idiotic, bigoted things. Let's not let the media or the left use it to smear and defame conservatives, turning attentuion away from their own sizable, rabidly anti-semitic constituencies...
No more Mel movies for me....

It doesn't matter when the news came out if no one read them, friend. We were too busy looking at guy photos. I'm pro Israel but when I'm diverted by guy photos, the rest of the world goes away. I like you, please don't miscontrue anything I've said as offensive; I wouldn't do that to you.

It would be nice if you could muster some for Mel.....he's done a lot of good.
I found it pretty refreshing that he took full responsibility for his behavior. He admitted his guilt and didn't try to blame it on anything or anyone but himself. Pretty rare these days.
But as I get older I like smart guys. Tubby or fit, full head of hair or receding, tall or short, if they have brains they are hot.
I did have hopes that his new movie might be something brilliant and original, something with an actual storyline.
I'm dissapointed in Mel myself, but only because I didn't realize that he actually felt this way about Jews. His alcohol abuse and DUI arrest is easier to forget and pardon. Needless to say it is not up to me to judge another human being and I hope he gets his life together and gets straight with God.
No, he`s flawed, but he is also a genius (in my opinion). That seems to always come with the territory with those types.
I`m Scottish, (well I was born here in New York city but my parents are Scottish) and I can`t tell you how much that movie Braveheart affected me and my family. We were practically inconsolable for days after watching it, that`s how much it affected us. I mean for Petes sake, your talking about conservative Scots watching a guy give his life for Freeeeeeeedom! Come to your own conclusions.
Until that movie, Scots (or modern day Scots) really had no kind of identity or the kind of pride the Irish have, it always felt like we were Ireland or Englands bastard son. No parades here in NYC like the Irish, no brotherhood like the Irish...Then that movie came out and it was life changing. I didn`t have to worry about being mocked anymore when I told some Irish idiot I was Scottish. I know that sounds silly, but it`s the truth.
Then when the Passion came out, WHOA! My cousin who is a devout Catholic almost had a heart attack right there in the theater when they raised the cross (as well as myself). To get that much emotion from a film can only be done by somebody who is above and beyond.
I just hope they don`t cancel his latest "Apocalypto" because of this. Like Speilberg, Coppala, Scorcese and Lucas who changed film in the `70`s, Gibson is doing the same thing right now. He is miles above anybody directing today. Nobody is even on the same planet as that guy.
