No if he sounded like a democrat, he would not admit he made mistakes and he would point the blame to someone else. At the very least he admits error. Just hope he does something about it.

He needs time in the county jail for driving drunk.

He learned from his father who "never lied to him". The man was a walking time bomb.

Why would he grovel if he didn't say those things?

And how come that "judge not" has been repeated on the Mel threads, but I never see that phrase on a Michael Moore thread?

I'm sure not one of your posts in the past says anything bad about Michael Moore, Hillary, John McCain, Ramsey Clarke, Saddam Hussein or Al Qaeda, right? Or does that "judge not" line work only for people you like?

His remarks were ugly, bigoted and ignorant. I say they reveal a dark side, but not necessarily his "truest" impulses.

I, and I think everyone, struggles with dark impulses of one kind or another. It's part of life. The battle is to reject them, and to try to nourish our better impulses. Mel has lost a battle with himself, apparently. I certainly don't condemn him absoultely, exactly because his previous artistic works have great merit.

I condemn his sentiments expressed in this incident. I'm glad he ronounced them himself and says he's ashamed.

Even though alcohol isn't a truth serum, bigoted statements like MG made just don't come from a vacuum.

"Being drunk" is no excuse for that crap.

Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Enough with repeating this phrase as an excuse for giving Gibson a pass!

A public personage who reveals a strain of racism is fair game for criticism, just as Jesus ripped the Pharisees for the burdens they put on the backs of their own people.

He specifically renounced his actions and words towards law enforcement, but he did not renounce his anti-semitism.

He should do that, specifically, and should also renounce his father's hateful attitudes toward Jews.

"So anti-Jewish statements just "Don't agree with the PC status quo" and otherwise are okay."

I may not agree with what someone says, but I absolutely believe they have the right to say it. I do not believe in speech police. Why should people have to always be walking on eggshells about what they say? I have no problem at all saying that I don't agree with something a person says. I might comment that they're showing their ignorance or even just being an @$$, but it isn't newsworthy. Last I knew, it wasn't illegal to have an unpopular opinion....although that seems to be changing...with the full support of much of the "conservative" contingent.

A lot of these people routinely spout contempt for conservative christians, "fundamentalists", "white European males", etc. They never apologize for their bigoted views.

And Moore, for one, has never produced anything approaching a serious artistic acheivement. I don't think he's ever repented from a stupid statement. And he probably agrees wholeheartedly with Mel that Jews (ie. Israel) and their Jew-supporting neo-cons in America are at the root of the world's current problems.

Gibson has gone off the deep end before and this is before his relapse. Very disappointing...jerk.

Ths is what he said about his film coming out this fall - "Apocalypto":

"The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".

I don't like to get too biblical but there are several passages in the book of Revelations wherein Jesus Christ compliments or criticizes members of the Churches who have identified ""apostles who are not apostles. They lie" and/or those "Jews who say they are Jews but are not. They lie."

I justify my own "outing " of Catholic bishops (apostles),who are liars with respect to adherence to Catholic teaching. I believe that anyone who identifies with a religion but is actually an impostor is a liar and a danger to the Church and to society and should be exposed. It makes for confusion and ultimately chaos,so I do everything in my power, limited as it is to,point out words and actions that are not in concert with Catholic dogma, doctrine and discipline.

Therefore,if I were a religious, orthodox Jew and knew that persons who didn't even believe in God were trading on their Jewishness to protect them in endeavors that were contrary to the Law and hurtful to society,I would be very angry that they were using my God and my people to cover nefarious operations,I would do anything possible to separate those liars from the body of believers.

In light of the preceding I respond to your question, which was:Wouldn't you be upset if the Jews had crucified one of your best friends? No,I would not be upset with the Jews that had called for punishment for Christ over 2000 years ago and I don't think that is what Mel is upset with either. I would imagine that he has developed an animus to those many Jews, who are not and that take advantage of the empathy and regret rightfully bestowed on those believing Jews, who suffered during the Shoah and cover all sorts of ugly machinations under the cloak of their "jewishness".

I believe that those are the ones who battled him at every step along the way as he tried to produce and distribute his movie (The Passion). Those men have always been with us and have usually hurt the societies they lived among.

I would bet that currently he is trying to get "Apocalypto" publicized and distributed and is running into the same problem from many of the same people, who I would label "secular pagans" but frequently hide as Jews.

I haven't read about the movie but I have to assume he is making a comparison between the Mayans, who sacrificed babies with Western Civilization's sanctioning of abortion. I imagine they probably had some pretty interesting, opprobrious sexual rituals too. So I'm betting that he is meeting the same kind of duplicitous resistance that he experienced with his very different type of movie "The Passion". He is probably aware that the same group screaming about "The Passion" for it's religious message is now resisting a movie that is not religious in the accepted sense but does touch on behaviors are destructive to religion and civilization. I bet he is stymied and blocked at every turn and was probably reflecting utter disgust with the system,so to speak.

I would also bet that Mel Gibson is dam mad at the squelching and choking off of the "freedom" to compete or dialog in the market place, thus severing every man from ideas, history, philosophy and information that might thwart the plans of evil men to assume the position of Almighty God.

When one has to stuff and stuff their own feelings and thoughts in order to comply with political correctness it often ends in outbursts that don't appear to be totally rational. This is why many non liberals hate the devastation of Gaza and Lebanon,it will just breed irrational terrorism (irrational, brutal, ugly) all over the world.

Maybe in the long run Mel's indiscretions will wake up more Americans, who once awake, may start pursuing facts, truth and reality. That would be good.

You say: "just as Jesus ripped the Pharisees for the burdens they put on the backs of their own people".

This is Gibson's statement the day after the event:

I...and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed

I don't think you'd catch a Pharisee saying that.

The ones who are deserving of condemnation are those who continually act dishonorably...the Bill Mahrer type for example...who exhibit hateful attitudes toward people groups and go on for years about it. Gibson is different.

If he is caught engaging in the anti-Jewish rhetoric longer term I will change my opinion and say that he is truly a hateful guy. But because he expressed unqualified repentance for what he called "despicable" actions, I do not see him as a Pharisee-type.
