Mel Gibson's statement on his DUI arrest
GrandForksHerald.com ^ | 7/29/06

Posted on 07/29/2006 1:51:47 PM PDT by LdSentinal

The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:

"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.

"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.

"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.

"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."

No, sorry. Nice isn't the word. Lubricated and talky, blubbering and nostalgic, like a character out of Russian play or novel, maybe. But haven't meant anyone that drunkeness improves on a consistent basis.

The reason your argument is invalid is that most people don't go through life trying to hide their good points; thus, they don't slip out only when someone is drunk or otherwise off guard.

A desire to be sociable, suppressed by shyness or fear of missteps, is about the only exception I can think of.

No, but from the very title I can imagine what the book says.

David Horowitz and Peter Collier are the editors. Very enlightening. I know of a professor in linguistics who lost his job because he dared to challenge Chomsky's linguistic theories. Chomsky is a crackpot. Period. Only in academia could he be allowed to rant and rave. I have had it with these professors. In fact, read the book The Professors by David Horowitz. Chomsky also appears in that book.

I think that Hannity and James Hirsen felt compelled to defend Gibson (in really over the top ways) because they saw him as a strong Christian who had made a very religious film. I think they were loathe to admit that scenes of Jews fighting over money can be hurtful and used for very negative anti-Semitic propaganda. I think they deliberately looked the other way. I hope they finally open their eyes. I will never give this guy a dime for any of his lousy movies. After the first Lethal Weapon it was down hill. He also has not aged well - it is probably from the drinking - and the Bush bashing is getting on my nerves. Is he hanging out with Michael Moore? At some point, the extreme right and the extreme left unite in their hatred of Jews, the USA, personal responsibility, etc.

The kids from South Park in the Passion of the Jew traveled to California to see a wackey Mel Gibson and get their money back. He chased them and tried to smash their car. The kids called it like they saw it! The creators of South Park are really brilliant. I know that Leo Bozell blasted that episode but I wonder what he thinks now.

Gibson and Michael Moore will make for a great married couple. They really deserve each other. If Mel doesn't stop the drinking, he will blimp up like Moore.

Heard on Drudge last night on WABC Radio from Regina : "Who knows what I would say if I were drunk?" Hopefully not that the Jews start all the wars, regina! I guess some Gibson supporters still drink the kool-aide. Then this nonsense about how "Jews for Jesus were not allowed Israeli citizenship". I love it when people who know nothing about Judaism feel qualified to comment on it. If you are a Jew, and you convert out, your parents have the right to sit shiva for you as if you were dead. All religions dislike members who are apostates. However, unlike Moslems, we don't kill our apostates! If you renounce Judaism, you have renounced the right of return. Period. Get over it, Regina, and pick up a book on Judaism 101 and learn something! I know that the Catholic Church believes that anybody who converts out is a "lost soul".

They hate Jews, they hate Christians and in Afghanistan they even hated Hindu statues which they blew up! The irony, of course, is that their religion borrowed so much from Judaism and Christianity, especially from Judaism: the Friday night services, the modest dress for women, the respect to Abraham, etc. And yet they profane our religion and hate us! They really are nuts.

I am not lying. I would NEVER lie about something like that. Whatever side we are on, we are passionate about it, Howlin. I do Not spread rumors about anyone. Some people are allowed to say what they want around here and offend others. Mel Gibson is a non issue. I will try not to bring up the TS incident again. I don't like being called a liar.

You lied when you said Hildy couldn't wait for Terri to die.

Period.

I guess it's all a matter of perception. I did not and do not lie. What I read was what I perceived. I am sorry for offending anyone. We are all passionate about what we believe. That's a good thing ( at least I always thought it was). I do apologize to you, Hildy.

I guess it's all a matter of perception

Yeah, yours.

Just because somebody doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they wanted Terri to die.

Perhaps you should consider the fact that the reason most people didn't post on those TS threads was because of remarks like yours.

Yeah? Then why are some people "jollier" ( a good point, according to you) when drunk, if that's a good point and not something they're tying to hide?

No. I stick by my assessment: excess alcohol improves no one on a consistent basis.

I must say this is VERY disappointing. If he had made ALL the stupid statements sans the anti-semitic ones, this thing could get written off as "the alcohol" speaking. Going into the anti-semitic tirade (which he does not deny, hence we assume its accurate), is another matter. Sounds like Mel has some serious problems. No way he makes those kinds of stamements irrelevant to what is going on without his mind being diseased with anti-semitism. I am not Jewish, (though the Nazis did murder members of my immediate family) and my #1 level of subhumanity is Holocaust deniers and other assorted anti-semites. I will never watch one of his pictures again. I hope he goes back to Australia, loses the acquired American accent, and sinks into obscurity among Roos and poisonous snakes "Down Under" - the US does not need him any more..............

Unfortunately, James Hirsen of Newsmax has already drunk the Gibson kool-aide claiming that he "exonerated himself". What I sense is a statement written by a publicist. Hirsen points to the bad behaviour and bigotry of certain libs - which we all know about. Their rotten behaviour does not justify Gibson's crummy behaviour.

I always suspected that the Bar-Abbas episode was inaccurate. I can't believe that the Romans would have freed an open rebel - under any pressure. I suspect that this was put into the New Testament to show that Jesus was very much alone at the end.

I agree. But Libs will join in hanging Gibson, pointing out his conservative leanings (in the past at least), while staying silent on their own hate-mongering wing.

Conservatives are more principled when it comes to castigating their own. We're the ones with Senate rules that allowed Tom DeLay to be railroaded out of leadership by Dems. Etcetera. And what I'm saying is, it might be useful to tie Gibson's statements to similar ones from extreme leftists who always seem to get away with it. If Gibson's got to go, how about that rabid anti-semite Sheehan? How about Chomsky, their intellectual guru? How about Annan in the UN? How about the dopes at Harvard who blamed a cabal of Jews in our government (code word: neocon) for essentially all the wars going on?

Gibson is a perfect way for libs to have their cake and eat it too (ie. blame Jews and lay it on conservatives)
