I heard an interview a year or two ago and this investigator said that the reason we get clusters of school shootings is because of the way the press and the media handle their reporting of them. All of the reports tend to trigger these things. I agreed then and I agree now.

Lt. Col (Ret) Steve Grossman has been predicting these for years as the next preferred AQ modus operandi. Remember Beslan!

"All of the reports tend to trigger these things."

Some things are better left un-said (un-reported in prime time, etc.).

Police pursuits, hostage-taking, school shootings/disruptions, etc.

Those who would commit these acts are encouraged by the media coverage, fanning the flames of "15 minutes of fame", followed up by PAID appearances on talk shows, books, etc.

We encourage people to make trouble, and they can then reap rewards for law-breaking (although a FEW court rulings have prohibited profiting from the crimes, it doesn't preclude friens and relatives from doing the appearances/writing, and the money is then funneled to the perp.)

Wasn't this one in an Amish schoolhouse though?

I don't. I was in a shooting at my old work (ESL). The guy (Richard Farley) was just deranged. I also think the HR department didn't do enough to stop the guy.

He was stalking a young woman at my work for a very long time, and she finally got a restraining order on him. He came in and shot up the place on the day the restraining order went into affect.

He killed 7 of my co-workers, and injured 5 others.

He was just a crazy, mean guy. The scary thing is that he had a top secret clearance when he worked at our company. It's been over 15 years since this happened, and the guy is still on death row. He hasn't been killed yet.
