"But what if druggies dont seek treatment? Force them to get treatment? "

If you spent the money you now waste on drug enforcement on enforcement of burglary and assault laws, you'd still get rid of the worst druggies and the recreational ones wouldn't matter.

Ha, that might actually be true, and isn't it the corresponding crimes that most concern people? I mean, other than the fear of their kids getting access to drugs, the threat is the bad behavior associated w/ drug use, not necessarily the drug use itself. But whatever. I'm just saying I don't see how you can force ppl to get treatment w/out using the same tactics Boortz apparantly deplores. It seems kooky to be against the drug war but advocate gubmint funded "treatment."

Little if any motivation for mugging a dozen little old ladies each day to pay for the drugs -- if legalized, drugs shouldn't cost any more than untaxed legal drugs like aspirin and caffeine. Drug addicts could peacefully overdose on $2 worth of drugs in the privacy of their own homes.

I'd have to feel bad for the cop who has to deal with them two weeks later in response to the 911 call about the smell, but not as much as for the little old lady who is getting mugged right now.

The drug war is a failure all it does it up the prices that the drug lords in countries that hate us are able to charge. Probably better to make it legal to sell drugs but illegal to take them or more likely illegal to be on them in public. We tried this with alcohol and it didnt work for that either.
