Mary Cheney and Partner Are About to Be Moms
Washington Post ^ | December 6, 2006 | Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts

Posted on 12/05/2006 11:04:34 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Mary Cheney, the vice president's openly gay daughter, is pregnant. She and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, are "ecstatic" about the baby, due in late spring, said a source close to the couple.

It's a baby boom for grandparents Dick and Lynne Cheney: Their older daughter, Elizabeth, went on leave as deputy assistant secretary of state before having her fifth child in July. "The vice president and Mrs. Cheney are looking forward with eager anticipation to the arrival of their sixth grandchild," spokesman Lea Anne McBride said last night.

Cheney, 37, was a key aide to her father during the 2004 reelection campaign and now is vice president for consumer advocacy at AOL. Poe, 45, a former park ranger, is renovating their Great Falls home.

News of the pregnancy will undoubtedly reignite the debate about gay marriage. During the campaign, Mary Cheney was criticized by gay activists for not being more publicly supportive of same-sex marriage. Her father said people "ought to be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to" but deferred to the president's policy supporting a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages. Cheney herself called the proposed amendment "a gross affront to gays and lesbians everywhere" in her book, "Now It's My Turn: A Daughter's Chronicle of Political Life," which was published in May.

Cheney has described her relationship with Poe -- whom she took to last year's White House dinner honoring Prince Charles and Camilla-- as a marriage. The two met in 1988 while playing ice hockey and began dating four years later. They moved from Colorado to Virginia a year ago to be closer to Cheney's family.

Cheney should not have been picked for VP by Bush. In addition, the endless Haliburton lies would have been avoided for the last 6 years.

I actually think the best thing to say about the Mary Cheney issue is not to argue about it, not to make jokes about turkey basters, et al - I think it's best to maintain a discreet silence and wish the Cheneys, as a family, well. Silence in this instance would be neither congratulations or approval - just tolerance.

If indeed the homosexual lobby does turn this into a political issue, that's another matter.

Regards, Ivan

Understand, my own opinion is:

* A married man and woman are the best combination for parents raising children.
* Mary's situation is none of our business.
* It's also not a matter for the media to gawk at or gossip about.
* Dick and Lynne are not "at fault" for their daughter's homosexuality, nor for her becoming a gay parent. It's Mary's life and her decisions. Same would be true if they were all Democrats.
* It's a shame the biological father won't have the benefits and responsibilities of fatherhood of this baby.
* Any meaningful condemnation or blessing should, and will, come from their God, not from us.

We ought to just wish them well and be comforted in the knowledge that their new family addition will be happy and loved. And leave them all alone.

Best Post on the subject. Bless you

No kidding .......if this was Chelsea Clinton this thread would be fire + brimstone and 2000 posts long.

Perhaps, but I think that would have more to do with the loathing of any though of there being yet another clinton on this earth.

This is all about "selling"... just like you sell anything!... advertising, subliminal messages... just like Madison Avenue would approach selling anything... Oops, did I say Madison Avenue?... I have never accused homosexuals of being stupid! Or politicians for that matter. both are the snickiest, clever, smart, talented, people you can find. They think they are SO SMART to get their agenda through just by calculating their moves. And after all, remember we in red states are "morons," so this should not be difficult to do.

And you have Mary Cheney... well bread, educated, fairly good looking, DAUGHTER OF THE ADVICE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. and her lovely mother.... Do I have to spell out the rest?... :) do I have to? :)

We know the with today's techniques people can be artificially inseminated ANY TIME they want to...(and that is just the beginning of what is possible now). Do you think this little bundle of joy happening now... just out of coincidence? just after the elections but still in time to "score some good points" for the homosexual agenda? :)

Good bye! Why do you cut and run??? Seriously if everyone who did not agree with one thread or another just suddenly quit then we would not have Free Republic would we. There are plenty of conservatives on here and you need to continue to be on here and perhaps give your two cents. Just because people do not agree with you 100 percent does not mean that they are not conservative. Good luck in your life without Free Republic. I could not imagine it.

If it's a political ploy, why wait until after the election to announce it?

You have evidently accepted the false "right/left" dichotomy promoted by liberal social scientists. In academia and the MSM, as well as the RINOs here on FR, white separatists, conservative Christians, fascists, libertarians, Objectivists, John Birch-style conspiracy theorists, traditional conservatives in the mold of Barry Goldwater and the elder Taft, and so forth are lumped together as the "far right." The only common thread among these disparate groups is their opposition to Marxism and international socialism. The "right/left" dichotomy that you have used is derived from the Marxist dialectic, which perceives a struggle between the thesis (progress, or socialism) and the antithesis (reaction to progress). The Marxist view is that progress, which they deem to be the advance of society toward communism, is inevitable out of what they deem historical necessity. Thus, their opponents, irrespective of the particulars of their political ideology or metaphysics, are to be attacked and destroyed because they hinder what they call progress.

Check your premises, because at least in this respect, they are compatible with DU.

As for the effects of mass obsession with self-gratification and immorality, we need only look to history, which is replete with examples of the decay and collapse of societies that fall into this trap. I suggest reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon, who, BTW, was no friend of Christianity. The works of Arnold Toynbee and Oswald Spengler also document the relationship of moral decadence to the rise and fall of human societies.

There's nothing decent or classy about bringing a child into a sick relationship without a father and then proudly boasting about it in the media. It's a disgrace.

Of course, that is YOUR opinion, which you are entitled to.

What you are NOT entitled to is to damn everybody to hell who doesn't believe exactly like you do.

Why the he** have you not moved to Sweden or other countries who allow the Mary Cheney life style.

Because I live in the San Fransisco bay area?

FWIW, 2 of the 5 kids sitting at my son's first grade table had two mommies. Should I have killed just the four adults, or the kids as well?

I asked a serious question and I did not expect to get wise crack as an answer, to me your point was not clear that is why I asked and out of courtesy you could easily have explained.

As with many on this forum that is too much to ask for I suppose.
