WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said, sidestepping his past comment that a child ideally would be raised by a mother and father.
Mary Cheney, 37, and her longtime partner, Heather Poe, are expecting their first child, which would be the sixth grandchild for the vice president. Cheney was hired last year as an executive for America Online.
"I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I'm happy for her," Bush said in an interview with People magazine.
Sorry, but I can't be happy about deliberately bringing a child into this kind of relationship. It's abnormal and children have enough to deal with in this wacky world!
A grandfather is a grandfather is a grandfather.
I sure hope some of these folks aren't grandfathers.
What do you expect them to say?
My thought too
You're right! It's very selfish to have a chid without thinking about it's welfare. Very sad.
However one feel about George W and his policies....
Personally he's a gentleman with a good heart and this is what I would expect him to say.
That a child should be raised by a mother and father.
Exactly!
I wonder if the baby will ever know his/her father. One thing is for sure, the baby will never be able to get truthful instruction in morality. How sad. In fact, he/she will be raised to defend what is an abomination to God. How very VERY sad! The role models for the child will be immoral, so as the child role plays, as children always do, the tot will pretend to be a homosexual. Again, how sad and tragic.
You'd expect him to do the gentlemanly thing and lie.
Yep,the poor child will be part of a loving family, will have super achieving and famous grandparents and will have all the advantages a hunded or so million $ can bring.... Hell, he/she might even grow up to be a political figure and do some good in the world....Its so sad
I their place I would have made no comment - certainly not how happy it made me.
I guess, "This is an abomination borne of degeneracy ", would be too tough a statement.?.
I would take a bastard child over lesbian mothers, any day.
I would take any child over an abortion, too.
This is another case of Republican leadership morphing into Democrat leadership. Just like Animal Farm, I cannot tell one from another anymore.
"Vice President Dick Cheney's pregnant lesbian daughter Mary will make a "fine mom," President George W. Bush said".
Barf alert.
This kind of thing is sick, not warm and fuzzy.
Just shut-up, Mr. President, if you can't say something any more useful or intelligent than that.
Sorry, but I can't be happy about deliberately bringing a child into this kind of relationship. It's abnormal and children have enough to deal with in this wacky world!
Uh Oh.... I worry for this thread, "morality" is overcoming common sense again
WELL PUT.
I don't condone homosexuality, but when is the last time anybody saw an article apparently intended only to remind the reader that Rosie O'Donnell or Katie Couric is a lesbian? I won't talk about Hillary Clinton in this post because I don't want the moderator to remove it.
Uh Oh.... I worry for this thread, "morality" is overcoming common sense again
What in gods name do you expect the president to say? The times they are a changing and polite society will have to adapt. Sorry folks.
It's all about class and social status isn't it? Would you feel the same way if it was a pair of lower middle class lesbians raising a kid that goes to an inner city public school where his/her classmates teased him/her that his/her parents were carpetmunching queers and that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree?
Love the Christian attitudes on this thread. God bless Mary and her baby.
But George W is the Commander in Chief, and we all tune our instruments to his pitch pipe. If he says this is GOOD, then it must be good for everyone, and we can shuck Holy Matrimony and just have babies with anyone, however, and forget about Original Design, Proven Universal laws.....

Hah, whatever. Ready or not, god or not, Armageddon seems to be brewing and we're suppose to smile and be happy for the vicepresident's dike daughter getting pregnant. Look 35 years in the future and do you believe that if this country continues down the path it is going that that hunded or so million dollars will be able to buy a happy meal at the newly Chinese owned McD's?
no
Do you really think that conservatism can be divorced from common sense?
..just like his infamous "religion of peace" comment--sometimes it is best to just say nothing...
EXACTLY!
A clear error in the reporting, I thought I would correct it.
Ps you forgot the BARF allert in this post.
"Do you really think that conservatism can be divorced from common sense?"
Where's the "common sense" in lesbian marriage and artificially induced lesbian parenthood?
You have a point I think the Taleban agrees with you
If you met Mary Cheney at a party are you gonna tell her that?
I guess we will know in 20-30 years.
Angry that Jesus didn't yell at the woman at the well and throw her down the well? That he allowed the woman of questionable repute to wash his feet? That he told the parable of the prodigal son being welcomed by his father? That he didn't have the adulterous woman stoned?
Was he a moral relativist, too?
There is a difference between making the best of an imperfect situation/being civil and endorsing/promoting.
Jesus told the prostitute to go and sin no more. Mary Cheney is going to be raising a child in a sinful relationship.
Can't we all just get along?
Whew!
you have....(I guess it could be said) a way with words.
You have a point I think the Taleban agrees with you
Here you go woofie, here's a painting for you.
President Bush need not have been negative - a no comment would have been the dignified response - unless of course, he approves and the situation does make him happy.

ROFL, you could use this too.
Bush could have very easily said "I am not going to comment on the personal life of Mary Cheney. I respect her privacy", and leave it at that. It is very disappointing that he chose ebullient praise of a homosexual artificial procreation, but certainly not surprising given his increasing wishy-washiness.
Watch the language!
