The Candidate (Rudy Giuliani in NH)
The American Spectator ^ | 1/29/2007 | Philip Klein

Posted on 01/29/2007 1:36:27 PM PST by Dark Skies

Many skeptics continue to question whether Rudy Giuliani is serious about making a run for the White House, but it was abundantly clear on Saturday that he had come to Manchester for more than the sub-freezing temperatures.

Addressing over 500 activists at the New Hampshire Republican Party's annual meeting as part of a two-day swing through the state, Giuliani sketched the broad outlines of what looks like a presidential run. Sounding at times like a motivational speaker, Giuliani cautioned against cynicism and pessimism in the wake of November's election results and challenges in the ongoing War on Terror. The message especially resonated with the audience in this critical primary state, where the Republican Party just lost control of both chambers of the legislature for the first time since the 1870s.

"The best way we remain safe and we retain our freedom...is remaining on offense, remaining strong and not becoming weak in a time of pressure," Giuliani said in a line that drew the biggest applause from the crowd at the Palace Theater.

does that make me such an ogre.

Not one bit! You are doing what you think is right, and I disagree with you. No biggie, that's just grounds for debate. You and I have the same goal, but different candidate in mind. i believe, given that we have almost a year before new hampshire, we can get a real conservative in there, and Hunter is the guy who most closely represents my ideology. I think he's viable. I would hate to put forth much effort into somethig I didn't feel was viable. Also, Rudy does not represent my views on far too many categories to be acceptable.

We have what i would consider otherwise very bright people here going off the deep end supporting a non-conservative just because they think he's the only electable candidate. I don't agree with that strategy one bit.

That does not, however make you, or any of them, an ogre. It doesn't make me a KKK member, either (PSYCHO-FREEPs line, not yours).

"I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, that it should remain that way, it should remain that way inviolate, and everything should be done to make sure that that's the case," Mr. Giuliani said in response to a reporter's question. "But I also believe that you should allow for the protection of legal rights for people who are gay and lesbian."

That's why he opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment. Do you believe everything that a liberal like Giuliani says and everything that the NY Times reports?

A) No, didn't I just I thought Rudy deserved the award? Now you twist my words (lie)

B) I don't care if I have the last word, but you keep skirting wherein I made a strawman argument. You posted this award thing as further representation of Giuliani's viability as President, when it means absolutely nthing like that.

I'm hoping Jim Rob answers too.

I also respect Jim, it's his site. Rudy is running as a Republican and speaks at Republican functions. If Rudy does not win the primary then I personally am voting for whoever does.

But naturally, if the owner of this form does not want us to support or post about a running Republican ... and my best choice as fighting the WOT, I will respect that. But it SHOULD be spelled out by Jim.

To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, this would be a first, where Freepers are not allowed to support a Republican.

Here is where I stand. I am going to vote for Duncan Hunter. I have been told over and over again that he cannot win for so many countless reasons. I hope he can overcome that. If he cannot not and Rudy wins the nomination, I will vote for him.

If Rudy wins, I strongly believe he will split the party. And then it wouldn't matter whether someone voted for Rudy or voted for the splinter group, no matter which one ended up larger. Hillary would get 42 percent or so, just like Bubba did in 1992, and the Dems win.

Rudy is being promoted as the likely winner because of name recognition and fund-raising and the perception that he can win. He might well win the nomination on those factors.

But those were the exact same factors that propelled Kerry to the Dem nomination in 2004, over much-more experienced candidates. The Dems thought he could win.

And overlooked a very important detail. The post-Vietnam baggage that Kerry had on his person.

And the Swifties exploded that like a grendade and he never recovered - and Kerry also turned off conservative Dems.

Look at the ammo Rudy can give to the Dems. They can run his cross-dressing pictures to turn off social conservatives. They can beat on the Bernie Kerik scandal to tarnish his WOT credentials. In the age of alt media, YouTube and the internet, negative advertising will feed on such baggage - even more than it did in 2004.

IMO the Rudy boosters are making the same mistake as the Dems did - blindly following a notion that Rudy can win without thinking through the endgame.

Throw in the fact that he is on the far left of the party, with views very unpalatable to many to the right of the party, and he will have a very hard time both holding the base and attracting the Reagan Dems back to the GOP. His candidacy is a recipe for utter disaster. We need someone else.

Giuliani urged, by letter, to the New York Senate Majority Leader to pass the state's first ever gay rights bill, but did it privately.

"I am writing to convey my support for the current legislation to prohibit discrimination against gays and lesbians, and to urge you to allow the bill onto the floor of the Senate for prompt action."

"...It is my belief that we can penalize discrimination [against gays] without creating any potentially objectionable special privileges or preferential treatment."

--New York Post, June 5, 1993

potentially objectionable ??? What a sleeze

Hi, Carton. Long time no see. Hope you're doing well. My computer is dying so we have another one being delivered tomorrow and I'm a wreck because we got stuck with the new Vista. Since I'm computer illiterate, it should be interesting :-)

Oh crap! Now you have gone and done it! you have posted Rudy's stance and history!. Dontchaknow that's bashing?

Funny, when you post evidence it's spamming, but when you don't, they say it's an unsubstantiated allegation, therefore a lie.

God, these abortion-lover fans sure get their knickers in a twist no matter how you play. it's bizarro-world, i tell you what!

Very well stated -- hope your flack jacket is on! :)

I agree with everything you have said. What I don't understand is that some Conservatives on here seem to have forgotten what happened on 9-11 and put social issues over everything. I want a leader who will stand up and to me it was simple to look at Rudy and see that leader. I am just glad he is a Republican and believes in smaller government, less taxes, and appointment of strict constituionalist judges along with his staunch stand against terrorism and support for our military.

Rudy on Immigration Last night, in an interview with Fox's Bill O'Reilly, Rudy Giuliani

Hey, thanks for posting that interview. It is a goldmine of quotes to use against Giuliani. He admits to giving sanctuary to 400,000 illegal aliens, he claims that illegal aliens aren't commiting crimes - demonstrating that he doesn't think that illegal immigration is a crime, he admits to giving illegal aliens benefits and "city money", and he admits to being for amnesty ("regularizing" illegal who are already here) for illegal aliens. All in ONE interview.

I didn't know that you were on our side against pro-abortion, anti-Republican, anti-2nd amendment, pro-amnesty, pro-gay marriage, pro-radical gay agenda, serial adulterer liberal north east lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
