My sister was convinced that Harry would die, for the same reason; she considered him a ‘Christ’ figure. But I’m thinking he didn’t really die because he was still being afforded that protection from Lily, and he was going, undefended, to save his friends. He had a ‘near death’ experience. ;o)
Dumbledore said that of course this all happened within Harry's head, but that didn't mean it wasn't real or words to that effect, confirming your take on it.
