Good guns for CCW (Vanity)
http://www.freerepublic.com ^ | 11/17/2008 | Me

Posted on 11/17/2008 6:46:59 PM PST by Red in Blue PA

I am currently thinking about getting a Kimber .45 Custom II, but am probably going to put it on hold as I would like a gun for CCW.

I tried my dad's Ruger LCP and it was very nice and light, but I would like greater stopping power with a CCW. So I was thinking about taking the plunge and getting a Kimber Ultra Carry .45. Does anyone here have one? And if so, how accuarate are they? A 3 inch barrel is about the same as the Ruger LCP I think, and I am concerned about its accuracy.

Many TIA

The situation is always bigger than the tool.

Great post. I was walking down a city street at night with my lady and two goblins came fast out of a dark doorway in front and to the right of us. One walked to the side the lady was on (the "wrong side " , the street side.) the other literally walked his stomach into the barrel of the .38 snubby I had in my spring jacket pocket with my hand on it off the trigger. He did a spin move and as he and his partner walked away, he said "you idiot, that was a cop. (I'm not, just LCTF)

I looked back on it and had to have a re-think since I did everything wrong except have the equipment to project power. I've had other situations where I saw things coming and was able to avoid them completely. Your post is good, because the most important thing is situational awareness and the least is the hitting power of your equipment. The happening can be on you before you can even register it.

And since we all like conspiracy theories, what part of Africa did Rahm visit? Was he in Kenya at all? Id he was snooping around, was he detained by the authorities like the last guy that was there looking for the BC?

True, those light SW’s are easy to carry but the recoil is substantial. Much more than the heavier SW’s.

Now, for home defense, there are much bigger and badder things to deal with. But I will definitely go check out the Bersa 380! Sounds like another really good, small CCW.

Check out the Bersa Thunder 380 plus too. The clip holds 15 rounds. Great guns at a very affordable price.

I’m a big believer in having two carry guns: a very concealable one like a snubby revolver that I can carry in a pocket of my shorts if need be, plus a .45 for times when concealability is secondary.

http://www.internetarmory.com/handgunammo.htm sorry to take so long to respond... This talks about the right ammo for each calibre and also the mindset necessary to “come out on top”.

Dude, what’s up with that link? It said attack site??????

Practice mostly with a mild 38 Special load, and carry 357 Mag. In a life or death situation with full adrenaline pumping you aren't going to care about recoil. Of course a 38 Special +P will get the job done as well, and Rossi or Charter Arms 38s are fine guns that will cost a good deal less than a S&W.

My carry gun as of late is a Mauser HSC in .380. They are hard to find but I love the way they fit my hand and bod. And it shoots the snappy cartridge well.

I use a G36 or the 30 as a concealed carry when upland walking. The 30 rides best in my back waist band and I often forget it’s there. The 36 always fits well in a pocket. The 30 is more enjoyable to shoot over extended periods. I have a shoulder holster for my G21 but usually carry a 624.

Am looking for a holster for my .45c S&W M&P... about the same as your weapon. (Love my S&W, btw) Any recommendations on that holster you mentioned?

Was checking out some things on this site and I think this fellow is not very happy with CA

I use the Galco WB218 Holster for the hip,
And the Galco AG424 Ankle holster for formal affairs.

You should shop around to find the one that works for you, since what works
for one doesn't work for another. Either way it takes becoming accustomed to.

Whatever you buy make sure it is "functionally reliable"

Your life depends on it.

I’m looking to pick up the Glock 30, but was hoping to get some feedback from an owner re: size, holsters available, how it handles.

A "functionally reliable" .45 ACP

Recoil is mild for a .45

Make sure you buy the grip plug for comfort.
