Call your local gun store and ask if they have a S'W pro model 45. It is S/W's latest 45 auto. Mini designed for concealed carry, short barrel in 45 Cal. One great pistol but be sure you really really want a 45 cal, as compared to a 9MM Browning High Power. Both out standing pistols. Viva Las Vegas.

For the money you cannot beat a Taurus Millennium Pro 145

Got one last weekend at the gun show for 375 nib. But also the Glock compact 45 or a new Taurus 1911 has all the bells and whistles too. Best thing to do is go look and find one that fits YOU

While I LOVE .45ACP revolvers. They tend to be a bit large for everyday carry.

Get the XD series for this company. You will spend less for them than Glock. The Marines have now tested them against the Glock and have found them more reliable. I own two and heading for my third one.

A glock 19 in 9mm is the way to go for you, especially if you don’t expect to be practicing a lot. The 9mm ammo is cheaper than 45 acp for practice, and believe me, you need to practice.

Get 8 extra high capacity magazines to go along with the gun. Next, ask some knowledgable people about the plethora of great 9mm self defense ammo out there. I carry triton 115 gr hollow points and practice mostly with the UMC ball I can get at dicks sporting goods for 11 bucks a box in bulk.

If youre determined to get the 45 go for the smith and wesson military and police with the thumb safety option. Its more ergonomic than the glock 21 and fits my hand better.

My main go to pistols by the way are a glock 19 a walther P99 in 9mm and an old school smith and wesson model 36 chief’s special snubby revolver in 38 special.

Sure, a .45 is fine. I own them. But his girlyman comment about 9mm was asinine and deserved rebuke.

CZ pistols are excellent! Finished totally from metal alloys (no plastic pistols) superbly balanced, accurate as the blazes and very competitively priced. I have three and I like them better than my XD and HK.

There’s nothing wrong w/ 9mm if you use hollow point, defensive loads. Kel-Tec PF-9 is a great carry weapon.

For .45, I just bought a Glock-30 and love it. But it’s twice the bulk of the PF-9. There’s no way I could concealed carry that gun in the summer here in Texas.

“Point a .22 at me and I’ll leave the premises.”

I read a stat somewhere (may have been from John Lott’s book) that more people are killed by .22 than all other calibers combined.

The “9mm isn’t a large enough caliber” is simply a myth.

Hmmm. Yes, odd, Cayuga. When I post from my Crackberry it drops periods sometimes where I don’t want them. Possibly Gary was posting from a handheld? Or had a bad math teacher way back when? ;-)

I have this little beauty:

I love it! This one doesnt start to hurt until after I pass 100 rounds. Chain stores are going to carry it for around $500, I got mine from a local gun store for $435.

hate to argue with you, but The Judge is a superior weapon for close range, guess what...if you are using any pistol for long range you are most likely going to lose anyway. But most times when a pistol is appropriate the target is within twenty to thirty feet. The Judge is ideal for this kind of range. I have heard not one person who has shot them complain about the .45 not being accurate. The .410 is a fantastic anti personal weapon for taking the fight out of an adversary. One does not have to be a crack shot with it to do damage.

Hate to disagree with your friend, maybe he isn’t a very good shot. Go rent one and try it out. You can get The Judge with different barrel lengths, the longer the barrel the more accurate, but harder to conceal.

The shotgun is a great defensive weapon that will give you a much better change of debilitating your adversary in a intense situation, especially if one or both of you are moving.

Some, alternate the five rounds between the .45 and the .410.

In any event, before you actually go out and purchase a gun of any type that you intend on using for defense...contemplate very carefully if you would actually use it on a person and if you think you will, will you be able to make your decision quickly? Otherwise, you will probably just get killed with it.
