An American Car Owned by a Socialist Government

I don't know about any of you, but as much as I like what GM is producing now, in the whole, I will never buy a car from a company that is owned by the UAW and a Socialist-in-Chief. Just sayin'

Ugh... conservatives should NEVER have ever bought anything made by the UAW from any company. All those purchases did was help to elect socialists.

Consider this bit of paranoia. You buy a GM car. You have a warranty issue. The dealer management disputes the claim. You persist and he has you prosecuted by the Feds for attempted fraud. After all, the company is now the US government.

I’m in - I’ve owned 4 Chevrolets and the one I currently own is my last. Besides if the Socialists get their way all GM will be making will be crappy, wimpy little compacts and hybrids. No more Corvettes, Camaros or anything that might not conform to what everyone “should” have.

The big “if” is if there’s a dealer left in your area.

I have a Z28 and I’ll be hangin on to that machine.

As much as I love the new Camaros, I just can’t bring myself to buy one, all things considered.

If by some miracle GM files for bankruptcy, breaks the unions, restructures, returns to profitability AND pays back the taxpayer money (yeah right), then I might consider it. That’s a LOT of what ifs.

Yes, it is SO disappointing to see what has happened to GM. I have always liked GM the best of the big three, and the new Camaro, Equinox, and Traverse look to be very good and competitive vehicles.

But I will absolutely not purchase a vehicle from a company that is basically owned/directed/supported by the government, which means my tax dollars are being used to aid that company.

It seems to me to be a clear violation of the equal protection clause of the constitution. How can this not be unconstitutional, considering that here you have the government using the tax dollars of auto workers who work for other manufacturers to aid their competition? So, they are clearly not being equally protected by their government.

You know, a boycott is when you refuse to buy something you otherwise would have bought because of some moral or political belief unrelated to other meritorious reasons for the purchase. So I'm not sure an automobile boycott per se will be necessary for cars made by Government Union Motors, as I can't imagine that GUM can possibly make a durable, desirable, and cost-completive sedan that will effectively compete with vehicles designed and manufactured by Honda and Toyota.

Assuming these deals go through the way they are currently posited, I predict that GUM will never earn a dime of honest profit.

That being the case, quite shortly we'll be hearing a hue and clamor from the unions and the companies they own demanding from our single-party Democrat government one or more of the following:

1. Additional direct bailouts from the U.S. Treasury.

2. Increased tariffs of some kind or another that affect competitors.

3. Required U.S. content mandates.

4. Vehicle-purchase tax subsidies of one kind or another that exclude other auto makers except themselves.

And, oh yeah, if by some miracle they do happen to succeed in making a competitive product, all else being equal, I'd choose a Honda or Toyota over a product made from a company owned by the UAW.

NASCAR is on the ropes. Looks like they will be racing Toyotas and Fords from now on.

The questions I have never seen are:
Will Government Motors employees become GSA employees?
Will the the UAW become a subsidiary of the government employees union.
Will the Government only use Government Motors autos in the future?
Will Government employees be required to buy Government Motors autos? Will Government Motors only make "fuel efficient" autos for the public and large trucks, SUVs and Limos for the elite and government. Yep I have questions.

With Chrysler and GM soon to be gone, Ford may well be gone. What are the cops to do, Chase criminals with Camrys? That would be pathetic.

Oh yeah, big O might have to settle for a Hyundai for stretch limo.

I’m amazed that the government actually thinks that GM will actually sell any cars now that they own them. Unintended consequences?

Hopefully, by the 2010 elections, the damage done by the gubmint to the US auto industry will have become so apparent that voters will throw the dems out en masse. The US auto industry CAN come back, if only the feds get the he]] out of the way, and they re-enter the market without union labor and with a business model closer to that of the foreign makes.

Well the way I see it......as a heavily taxed American GM already owes me a car, or 2, so I would never actually purchase one from them. I also won’t do biz with any other entity that I know took TARP or bailout money.
The only $ they will get from me is what Obama stole from me, my children, and grandchildren.
