In 1964 would Kenya have been a member of the British Commonwealth? If so the term Republic would not have been used as the Queen is considered the head of state of all Commonwealth members. There was a movement in Australia some years back to abandon the Commonwealth nd become a republic. I on’t know if it went anywhere. I can also remember in the 60s listening to radio stations CBL Toronto and CBM Montreal for hockey games. Those stations would sign off at 1 AM by playing BOTH O Canada and God Save the Queen. (Though the announcers simply referred to it as “the Queen.)Canada was not a republic either. So I doubt that in 64 Kenya had made the decision to leave the Commonwealth.

The history of Kenya’s independence is pretty violent, check out the Mau Mau revolution, now here is probably why the One didn’t ever want to be white. I remember the Mau Mau’s, we were daily regaled with news reports of them chopping up white settlers with machetes

Until 2007, Commonwealth realms that became republics automatically ceased to be members, until (like India in 1950) they obtained the permission of other members to remain in the organisation. This policy has been changed, so if any current Commonwealth Realms were to become republics, they would not have to go through this process.[35]

Kenya is a Commonwealth member.

You raise interesting points.

However, I looked into this this morning.

Kenya is indeed a republic, and is still a member of the Commonwealth which it joined in 1963.

Wrong.. Kenya left British Commonwealth in December 1963.

The question is did they print up government documents in anticipation of becoming a Republic before the Republic was officially declared?

I’m on the fence.
