Protesters want more tax (Here come their real demands!)
Canadian Television Edmonton ^ | October 29, 2011 | Chandra Lye and Sonia Sunger

Occupy Edmonton protesters held a march on October 29 to call for a Robin Hood tax.

They are calling on G20 leaders to immediately impose a 0.05 per cent tax on banks for financial transactions and currency trades.

They claim that profits made from the tax could go back to programs to benefit society.

"It's a good way to generate some revenue to deal with global poverty, to deal with climate change," spokesperson Chelsea Taylor told CTV News.

According to the group the Canadian government has shown a lack of leadership on a Robin Hood tax.

"Finance minster Jim Flaherty was over at the finance ministers meeting saying he would not put any kind of tax on the banks so that kind of lets us know where their priorities are," Taylor said, "They would rather see harmonized sales tax on you and me and they won't even tax the richest people, the richest institutions," she added....

I’d like to see a camping tax and a huge tax on drum beaters and cowbell bangers.

As I recall, Robin Hood took money from government and gave it back to the taxpayers.

I really don't get how the Rich are stealing from the Poor. The rich pay taxes given to the Poor for no return and the poor pay no taxes and only take from the rich.

Seems to me the OWS gang are just hoods, not Robin hoods. Only difference between the OWS and a mugger, is the mugger works for a living, the OWS want someone else to do the robbing for them.

Every single time someone wants the government to raise taxes, I wish someone asks the question:

1)Do you think it’s it’s immoral for me to hold you up at gun point and force you to give me your money?

2)Why do you think it’s any more moral for the government to use its awesome power to forcefully take money from people who have earned it, and give it to anyone they think should get it?

Put your wallet on the table, look at them seriously and say, “Take what you think you’re entitled to”.

You see there’s this principle of nature called natural selection. People figure that because I am religious, I deny it and despise Darwin. You see, I don’t despise Darwin, I admire competitive nature, as a political conservative and businessman, I admire natural selection and competitiveness as the force that with the right direction, and right set of goals for people, both makes individuals successful, happy, stronger, and better people both in America and the world at large.

And not as much as a "Thank You" comes from their lips. Instead, they bitch and complain that we aren't giving them enough!

Screw them! I'm sick of this class warfare B.S. They can kiss my overtaxed ASS!

Wouldn’t it be easier if the protesters pledged every penny of their own money, their parents money and the money of all their relatives to the poor in Kenya (choose your own cesspool), payable next Tuesday? I’m sure that would make everyone happy. Pay up ladies and girly-men.

This isn't really a ‘tax the rich’ kind of thing, this is a tax everyone tax. The only difference is that it's nice and hidden, so the ‘poor’ people don't feel like they're paying it, while the ‘rich’ won't feel it much at all.

Most significantly, it would remove the present constant revalued currency that is happening around the world. There wouldn't be any where near as many currency swaps, so therefore, any shifts in the market would be very dramatic, and likely to the loss. Do I speculate and play in some Yen, knowing I'll have to pay to get into it, and pay to get out again, or do I just skip it.

The more problematic would be the amount of currency on reserve - that OWSer who wants to buy those peace symbols from England might have to wait until next Thursday for the bank's next purchase of pounds... And in the end, it'll be the consumer who pays each and every penny through higher prices, devalued currency and higher fees.

Oh, and the ‘rich’ will get richer, of course, and I speak of the bureaucratic class who'll be flush with new taxes (and even more borrowed money) to go and give themselves nice financial pats on the back and hire some more fellows to join in on the party. The end result for the ‘poor’ of course will be virtually no change - fold in the higher costs and any supposed benefit is likely a net loss for them.

Brilliant. You know, when I went to college, some freshmen would submit this type of garbage and get it torn up in front of the other students, and then the rest of the lecture would be spent identifying each and every salient point until they were crushed.

They claim that profits made from the tax could go back to programs to benefit society.

Hey occupiers... Econ 101, first week... One, that is not "profit" ... it is a tax. Two, currently that money doesn't just evaporate. It gets re-invested back into businesses that generate further profit (called value-add) as well as jobs. When you pull it (the money) out of the economy in the form of taxation, you take away business opportunity and jobs. Even worse, the government has no "value add" so there is a net loss of opportunity with that capital. This shrinks the overall economy.

If you {expletive}'s had actually paid attention in school you might have picked up on this. Put the bong down and pick up a book sometime.
