I don’t think the “author” countered anything. He used the juvenile left tactic (the reason the left can not make it on Talk Radio) of obfuscating and avoiding the issue brought up and then insulting anyone who sees a problem with the issue that was brought up.
Just think how much the world would be without lefties.
I used to own a coffee shop. I had a grouchy old lefty customer who would come hobbling into the store every week. He would rail on the drug companies and health insurance in between talking about all the meds he was on.
The sob wouldn’t be as old as he was without big pharm, the health insurance companies and the medical profession.
I knew I was going out of business, so I didn’t mind battling it out with him a little over the last few months. It really agitated him, but he kept coming back.

A little advice: if your relatives argue in bad faith: withdraw. They have no interest in the truth, only in appearing superior. Alternatively, if you have the patience for it, quietly and dispassionately question the assumptions behind their assertions: "Why do you think you have a right to the product of another man's intellect and effort?" They still won't ever let you "win", but it will reveal them.

People who start or encourage political (or God forbid, religious/ethical) arguments at holiday family gatherings should have their pee-pees whacked repeatedly with heavy blunt metal objects. They’re not the time or place. If you really must argue about something, there’s always sports.

I think that is the problem. We are too polite and professional to throw the truth in their faces.
So ... he doesn’t really dispute the truth behind any of this assorted laundry list of accusations, he simply wants to change the subject or argue that the issue is unimportant.
