GOP war on Obama: Lighting the fire of racism in America
AllVoices ^ | May 19, 2012 | Maryann Tobin, professional journalist

It has been suggested that the Republican war against President Obama is not being waged because of political ideological differences, but instead, is a thinly veiled disguise for racism against the first black president of the United States.

If this is true, no one should expect anyone on the Republican side of the aisle to actually admit it. But actions do speak louder than words.

There has been a rebellious trend in government since Obama took office that has brought both governing and Americans' view of Congress to historic lows.

Compromise has surrendered to hardline conservative views and deliberate Republican threats and acts have been so profound, they have actually harmed the entire county. Evidence of this can be found in the 2011 debt ceiling battle. Why would any governing body take their own nation to the brink of economic disaster with the threat of credit default, when money was available to pay the country's bills with what has historically been a routine vote?

More than dirty politics

On Thursday, the New York Times uncovered a 2012 Republican campaign strategy designed to inflame American voters and promote hatred against the sitting Democratic president. It was called, "The Defeat of Barack Hussein Obama."

The $10 million dollar advertising blitz was to include negative images and inferences to a decades-old relationship between the Reverend Jeremiah Wright and President Obama, who formerly attended his church in Chicago.

Funded by billionaire and TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts, the "Plan to End His Spending for Good," quickly became a political hot potato no one wanted to touch, since the implications of such an advertising campaign contained racial overtones that were hard to escape.

The "Defeat of Barack Hussein Obama" plan that was under consideration by Ricketts, included references to "race-bating" and "black liberation theology." It also suggested hiring an “extremely literate conservative African-American,” as its spokesperson, "who can argue that Mr. Obama misled the nation by presenting himself as what the proposal calls a "metrosexual, black Abe Lincoln.”

Truth vs. Fiction

How President Obama has actually governed during the past three years often has little or nothing to do with the claims that are being made against him by Republicans. He has in fact, been fiscally far more conservative since taking office than his Republican predecessors, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

So why do charges of over-spending persist?

One reason for a variety of the exaggerated or false claims by Republicans against President Obama, lie in the effectiveness of scare tactics on the public. Obama has been often compared to Adolf Hitler by his conservative critics. Yet there is a striking similarity to Nazi Germany and Republican anti-Obama propaganda.

Both used fear and misrepresentation to stimulate public support for their causes.

Then there is the "Birther" movement which has been resurrected in recent days. It attempts to place doubt in voters' minds as to the nationality of President Obama with claims that his birth certificate is fake and he is not an American.

However, this still does not answer the question of why the Republicans have been fueling division and refusing to govern since Obama took office. But this does; Republicans have admitted that their main goal has been to keep Obama from being a successful president and to defeat him in a second term at all costs.

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said, "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president."

What makes Barack Obama such a target for Republicans, when they have never so openly admitted their adversarial position against other Democratic presidents?

Changing the rules

More evidence of the Republican war on Obama is surfacing in legislation that has been passed by Republican governors since the last election. New laws, some of which have been declared illegal, have been focused on disenfranchising minority voters, and stripping unions of their strength. Both are aimed at keeping money and voters away from Obama.

There have also been suggestions for a return to segregation by some Republicans, like Kentucky's Rand Paul.

"Paul explained that he backed the portion of the Civil Rights Act banning discrimination in public places and institutions, but that he thinks private businesses should be permitted to discriminate by race," according to Politico . Racism still exists in America in the 21st century. But until Barack Obama became president, few politicians would so openly advocate the promotion of segregation.

Beyond the political undertones for a revival of racism, there have been openly inflammatory, race-based images and remarks made about President Obama that show a diminished respect for the Oval Office. During his State of the Union Address, the President of the United States was called a "liar" by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson.

Would Wilson have said that to Obama if he were white? Conservative bloggers have made no secret of the fact that they are using the color of Obama's skin to arouse and incite the far right fringe of the Republican base. Perhaps the most disturbing element of this segregationist revival is the way it has morphed entire Republican Party into a radical movement driven by big money corporate interests, who seem determined to turn America into a separatist nation that caters only to wealthy white people, and their quest for domination of all political and social behavior with far fewer "united" states.

These folks like projecting their own sleaze on other people.
The 2007-2008 Democrat led Congress did all they could to sabotage the US economy to improve their chances of winning the Executive branch in the 2008 election. Now they claim the Republicans are doing the same in 2012. Ignore the fact that they have no examples (like Schumer causing the financial ruin of IndyMac, and by Pelosi causing energy costs to skyrocket), but the Dems will throw accusations because they know what they did and assume anyone else would do the same (to wit, to damn the Nation if that is what it took to gain power).

And here we have Obama's DOJ providing justice for Holder's people, but not all Americans. Obama calling out the local police as asking stupidly, because a blowhard Harvard professor with darkskin didn't like the way he was treated during a local investigation. And Obama inserting himself in the Zimmerman lynching by saying that the youth who attack Zimmerman would have looked like Obama's son...And again, back in 2008 Mr. Obama referring to his Grandmother as some'typical white' Woman, etc, etc....

The Obama administration, and the Democrats in general, live and breathe in creating racial divisions... And here they project this on the Republicans

There you have it. Any opposition to 0bama whatsoever is racist. Not only are you a racist if you vote for someone else you’re a racist if you don’t vote for anyone at all because you’re not voting for 0bama.

One reason for a variety of the exaggerated or false claims by Republicans against President Obama, lie in the effectiveness of scare tactics on the public.

She is right. It should be much more effective than it is to tell people that the US debt has risen to 14 Trillion dollars (which is rapidly approaching the GDP).

Unfortunately the bulk of the voting public is entirely ignorant of fiscal matters. Then there is Obama’s core voter who is a net recipient of the government’s largess who even if they are knowledgeable of fiscal matters does not care because it is tin heir own self interest that the fiscal bleeding of the country continue.

But the claims of the economic danger of Obama’s fiscal policy are neither exaggerated nor false. This country is staring down the barrel of a Russian Roulette gun with five chambers loaded as far as debt is concerned. This country is primed for a bout of hyper inflation (real inflation is already around 10% but is being camouflaged by the accounting methods of the Fed). Just a little scare is all it will take to tip the trigger to a full blown economic melt down.

With so many of the other industrial countries in the boat with us if one falls all will fall together and we will see an economic depression that will make us look on the 1930’s with nostalgic longing.

More like the Insane Skank, or Delusional Ditz.

The unbelievable BS this bitch spews is incredible, from demonstrable outright falsehoods to blatant projection and rabid racist claims that have basis in reality. Only a complete buffoon would take anything this idiot states as fact, yet the sad reality is, many ignorant voters, particularly women who think they're intelligent (and I've had the misfortune to meet several), will actually parrot this tripe as if it was fact.

Anyone who believes nonsense such as this needs to be told bluntly that they are insane to believe such gibberish, and their race card has expired and will not be renewed, IMO.

Heh! Yea, I don’t blame you for re-reading. I should do it more often myself. Still feeling bad about my dysfunctional writing - have to stop that!

I am trying to improve - at my age, it is never too late - heh.

Really sorry though, I get carried away at times and don’t proofread as I should. Have a great evening...

In response to the “professional writer”; Hell no, I will not vote for Ostupid based strictly on his color! I have hated Stalinist REDS my entire life. My father had to go to Korea to kill COMMUNIST REDS just a few years after he finished killing Ostupids cousins; the NATIONAL SOCIALIST REDS in Germany. I had to go to that 3rd world sh#thole called Viet Nam while I was in the Corps just to kill more SOCIALIST REDS. All socialists have three things in common; they are all REDS, they breed like cockroaches, and they enjoy the power of being able to kill people who don’t agree with them.

The Race Card has become the Holy Communion for the Left. If they cannot find racism in it, they have not done their job to distribute the sacrament.

Now, my little Lefties, open up your mouth and stick out your tongue! The anointed elites in the media are sanctifying your existence.

Just incredible. Like denial in the alcoholic, never underestimate the human capacity for rationalization.

Or, to try and quote Bill W. describing how AA works They seem to have been born lacking the capacity to be honest with themselves.

Blaming the GOP of racism is an attempt to once again re-ignite the Guilt ridden whites that got this lump of crap elected the first time.

I would think that even the most guilt-ridden would have enough by now, but I guess this woman proves me wrong.

She is ready to ignore incompetence, arrogance,a total administration of failure, in order to prove she isn’t a racist.
